Excellent trip! Beautiful environments, good food and Eddie was a great guide! A once in a lifetime experience that I’d definitely recommend.
Great landscapes, great guides, lot of knowledge and history. This is an must have in any Peru trip.
The four day trek is a unique way to learn about and appreciate the local culture and nature. We had taken the train to Macchu Picchu a few years earlier… read more but the hiking trip really puts this unique wonder in perspective. Carlos and Joao were awesome guides; knowledgeable, experienced, patient. Given the restrictions by the ministry of culture— e.g. the locations of campsites and the facilities, the tour company has done an awesome job. The food by the chef Julio Cesar, was amazing: a high end introduction to the Peruvian cuisine. A team of porters had to transport everything on foot up to the three camp sites and cook the food on site. Everything was provided by the team- tours of Inca sites along the way and of course the tour of Machu Picchu at the end.
This company "suggests" that everyone should tip 80-100 sols to each porters and 10-15% of the tour fee to guide as a tip after booking. it’s not right to… read more inform that after booking. Even though each tour company said that tips are not included. but I have asked people who booked other travel agencies and there is no "suggestion" on how much to tip.
The tour fee is 700 US dollars per person. Even if each person gives minimum 10% as the tips(70USD), our group was 16 people, then that is 1,120 US dollars for the tour guides for 4 days working. I think that’s too much. I’m totally fine with the tips for porters, because they really did hard work. but giving 70 USD for our tour guides? Nope
This was one of the most amazing excursions of my life! I’m a pretty experienced traveler and been on many tours, and this was something else. It was extremely well… read more organized, the porters were super heroes, and our chef Julio Cesar was a master in the kitchen! Our meals were so thoughtful and delicious. It’s amazing what he can put together in the middle of nowhere with such an amazing staff to help him. Everyone with the company was very thoughtful and helpful with anything we needed.
Our guide, Carlos Ccolcca, was the absolute best! He was so knowledgeable and personable. He really took care of us during the entire trip.
What wasn’t expected was that in our group of 7, which would be a great for intimacy and bonding, there would be a couple from the Netherlands who were VERY sick and demanded much of our guide’s time. They were unbelievably rude and selfish as to their needs when they should have ultimately decided NOT to take part in a physically demanding multiple day hike. We also had three teenagers who were not accompanied by their parent. The kids also hiked as fast as possible from point A to point B, leaving the rest of the group behind. Our guide had to stay behind with the sick people for safety reasons. The parent of said teenagers apparently decided that our guide was supposed to be their babysitter, and made it known that she felt her children should have been watched over 24-7, which in this situation with the Dutch couple, was not possible. Carlos did the absolute best he could in the situation and to make our time memorable.
Anyone who takes part in a tour knows how important the synchronicity of a group is to the overall experience, and unfortunately selfish sick people and unaccompanied children aren’t a great contribution to that. Tour gets 5 stars, but our group gets 2 stars!
I highly recommend this experience. Nilo was our guide and he was super nice and informative. The rest of the crew was Celso, Juan and Victor and everyone… read more was very accommodative. The food was great – I ate better in the mountains than I do at home lol. The views are amazing. It’s an unforgettable experience.
I had one of my best experiences during the 4-days Inca-trail hike with the TreXperience. The trail and scenery is spectacular. But it could be really difficult without our experienced tour guide… read more and team (great chef and porters). Here are good and bad things about TreXperience:
Good:
– Great great team, specifically the guid (Robinson) and the chef(Julio Secar) (see below)
– Great organization of the whole trip: Everything was reasonably scheduled (wake up, food, sleep times).
– Reasonable plans: All the stuff was planned in a way that all of our group enjoyed.
– Helpful orientation before the trip and pick-up and drop-off plus storing our loguages during our trip.
Bad/Suggestions: Really cannot think of anything!
About our guide and chef:
Our tour guide(Robbinson) was one of the main factors that made our experience great. He was very patient. While he let faster members go ahead and enjoy their speed, he always followed the last person (the slowest) and made sure that they were OK and enjoying their trip. He had a really good sense of humor and he was very knowledgeable not only about the historical sites and Incas’ history, but also about the nature there. He showed us a lot of very cool stuff about how Inca’s would use nature to survive.
Also the chef was incredibly good. He made a lot of different foods (mostly Peruvian) with really good quality (every time I wished I could eat more).
And finally, none of these would be possible without our super nice local porters.
Excellent!!! This 2-day short Inca Trail was definitely worth it. Tour guides Franklin and Sara were super welcoming, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area and its fascinating history.… read more They always put our needs first and were very organised when it came to transport and arrangements. Would certainly recommend this tour and Franklin and Sara because we had an excellent couple of days.
This trek was the best experience of my life. The landscape, activities, explanation was perfect. Our guide William with Trexperience was the best one I had since I travel around… read more the world. Really friendly, like to make jokes, really respect the schedule and take care of everyone and try to keep everyone in group depending the level of hiking of everyone. William is really passionate by his job and knows a lot about the Inca history. The food was amazing, i thought we were at 2 start restaurant everyday. I strongly recommend this trek
Nature, Inka’s elements with all their history, great food and a lot of fun. I think this is the best away to get to machu picchu!
Thanks to our guides… read more NILO and YONER I had the opportunity to better understand the Inka colture and to have a lot of fun! These 2 guys are incredible! As well as the chef’s team that provided us such great food, also the dishes for the vegetarian were incredible. I raccomando you
Amilcar, the chef; Elmer the suis chef y Mozo Hernozo a frat waiter!
I suggest also to do the inka trail and not other trails because of alla the Inka elements and because once I get to machu pichu, I swear, it will taste different than just taking a bus or a train in one day!
My husband and I booked this tour for our honeymoon and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences of our lives.
Amazing views, amazing food,… read more amazing people!
You get to journey through some beautiful landscapes – originally walked by the Incas – and see environments including grassland, cloud forest and jungle.
The group size is perfect (around 14 people) so you have time to talk to and get to know everyone.
At night you camp in the beautiful mountains and you don’t even have to put up your tents – there’s a team of amazing porters who do it all for you and your camp is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Speaking of the amazing porters, this includes a number of talented cooks who prepare you breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a mix of both traditional Peruvian and European food and it is absolutely delicious! (My husband and I had been suffering from travellers’ tummy before the hike, but this food put us right.)
The chefs even prepared an amazing cake and marshmallow birthday surprise for one hiker in the group, and on the last night my wife and I were presented with not one, but TWO chocolate cakes to celebrate our honeymoon!! Amazing!!
What makes you feel even better is that Trexperience is an ethical company, which treats the friendly team of porters well, makes sure they are paid properly and doesn’t make them work ridiculous hours, ie four day treks back-to-back. There are some porters along the trail who look absolutely EXHAUSTED and it does feel uncomfortable. However, with Trexperience you can be confident that in this company they are treated well.
Each day begins with an early breakfast before you start your hike. Day one is pretty easy, while days two and three are more challenging – some steep up and down hills.
However, if you haven’t done a hike before please don’t worry, all you need is good stamina, a positive attitude, and the will to succeed!
You walk through some BREATHTAKING landscapes and are constantly surrounding by mountains which are beautiful come rain or shine.
There’s waterfalls, wild animals, gorgeous flowers, and historical sites along the way.
Another point; if you are struggling, you can take as much time as you want and one of the hike leaders will stay with you.
All this, and I haven’t even mentioned our super tour leaders or Machu Picchu!!!
We had two tour leaders for our trip who had bounds of energy, enthusiasm and humour.
Each day, to break up the walks, our guides Erisban and Manolo would stop us for a rest and tell us about traditional Incan beliefs and customs. It was really interesting and a great way to learn about history as Erisban and Manolo are descended from the Incas.
They are very passionate and you could tell that they loved introducing their culture to us.
They were great fun to be around, always laughing and joking with the group, while they could always put you at ease if you were worried.
Thank you Manolo and Erisban – you were super!
The fourth and final day is the the highly anticipated two hour walk and visit to Machu Picchu.
The team wakes up very early and embarks on a beautiful hike to ‘Sun Gate’ – the viewing point opposite Macchu Picchu.
Here you can celebrate the completion of your journey, take in the awe inspiring scenery and (of course!) take celebratory selfies.
A visit to the Incan super-town really is a once in a lifetime experience and leaves you in awe of what was achieved hundreds of years ago.
After your visit, you take a bus (hooray!) down from the mountains to enjoy some llama burgers (seriously!) and some shopping before taking the panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo. A beautiful way to end a superb trip.
In conclusion, this is a once in a lifetime trip that you simply must do if you are planning on visiting Machu Picchu – and there’s only one group to do it with: Trexperience!
Thank you guys for an amazing honeymoon and unforgettable memories x
Amazing amazing experience!!! We hiked with our teenage daughters. This being our first hike we were bit nervous about the enormity of project. I will not lie it was… read more hard but with the help of our guide Edy, we could not only accomplish it but had a great time as well. The way edy and his team supported us is beyond words. They took care of all our needs before we even realize it. Food was amazing, not just taste wise but also presentation. They took care of all our dietary needs as well and would work around . Our cook Ronaldo is nothing short of five star cook. You can feel his passion. All the team is super passionate about their culture and heritage and Edy kept explaining us about communities and their roles on our way to trek. He is very knowledgeable about Inca, pre Inca and other local civilizations. I can say on and on about how happy I am with my experience. Overall very nice trip.
This was one of the best trips of my life! Stunning scenery, challenging hikes and we were so well looked after. Edy was one of the best tour guides ever,… read more so kind and patient and made us feel completely comfortable and at home. Our porters were amazing carrying everything we needed and cooking great food every day even with sweet touches like being woken up with coca tea each morning or bowls of warm water outside our tent morning and evening. Sara was a wonderful tour guide as well- so funny and kind and very knowledgable. We had an amazing time- 10/10 would recommend!
Phenomenal 4 days and 3 nights. Very well run and organised trip with excellent quality tents, sleeping bags etc supplied.
The food is just incredible, the Chef Raymondo served… read more up the best food I have had in Peru in copious qualities.
JJ and Juan our tour guides were superb. JJ’s knowledge and passion for the Incas was infectious. Brilliant company.
Recently completed the 4 day 3 night classic Inka Trail with Trexperience. What an amazing experience. The company was professional from start to finish. They have high quality equipment, attentive… read more and incredibly hard working porters and chefs (the food was amazing, not what I was expecting when trekking and camping in the mountains) and of course our fun local guide Robbie who was first class with his fluent English, great knowledge of the Inkan/pre-Inkan sites we visited as well as history and culture of the local area and people. Special thanks for putting up with our endless questions (!) and making sure each of us in the group got what we wanted from the experience. And for the 4am daily coca tea !
Not an easy hike but achievable for various ages and fitness levels and worth ticking off the bucket list. I’d highly recommend Trexperience.
Amazing experience! Nature, route & staff! Perfect organisation, very good cooking, safe travel, good communication & a food laugh! Our guide Nilo & Zenobio (cheff) were excellent. They are the… read more key of making this experience unforgettable, thank you thank you!
It was an amazing experience. Beautiful views all the way. The first two days were full of trekking and the hardest. Our guide Nilo was very attentive, caring and concerned.… read more He was very easy to talk to and I loved listening to his stories while hiking. I really enjoyed our meals prepared by chef Vacilio and sous chef Eusebio. Lots of Peruvian dishes as well as few surprises like pancakes and birthday cake. Our horseman Frank was working hard as well taking care of our tents and all the belongings. I really enjoyed everything, and the views were always incredible. I would definitely recommend TreXperience!
Incredible experience. Every aspect of the trip was of the highest quality. The food was amazing, the accommodation was comfortable, the porters were hugely helpful and the tour guides Charly… read more and Sara were fountains of knowledge. I would highly recommend Trexperience for anyone looking to do the Inca Trail over 4 days.
Our experience was amazing! Our guides, JJ (Juan Jose) & Judy, were experienced and knowledgeable and kept us well informed the entire trip. The food was absolutely delicious and… read more so impressive, we ate like Kings every meal. A huge thank you to our porters for carrying everything and having everything set up flawlessly upon our arrival to camp each night. With so many dynamics with a group hike our guides did an excellent job of handling many tough situations (altitude sickness, slower trekkers, etc) and ensured that everybody arrived safely to camp each night. Thank you for making this experience the best!
This was an awesome experience, we had a great tour with our guides Russel and Rosa. The food by chef Julio Caesar was terrific. It was a group full of… read more ‘super hikers’. We had a lot of fun, cool bananas! Estoy caliente!
Edy was an amazing guide. He had so much passion when explaining the Inca trail and all the artefacts. Massively made our hike a great experience!
Roland (head cook) who… read more was cooking for us was very talented, cooking extravagant meals and creating sculptures of art with food. Amazing experience, much recommended!
This trip was a long time bucket list and it was MAGICAL. Our guides, Edy and Joao and team were knowledgeable about history, flora, fauna, anything we asked. They were… read more patient with varying trekking abilities within our group. The kindness and hospitality of the entire team was extraordinary. I will remember the beauty of the trip and people for a lifetime.
But the small things…
Because I asked, experiencing a Quechua ceremony as we started our final day to Machu Picchu was truly special.
We mentioned a significant birthday of one of our group. We didn’t ask for anything special but a birthday cake and singing from the entire team was a special memory. The food was amazing on the entire trip but how does a two-layer decorated cake appear from a cook tent!?!
Thank you Edy and Joao and the entire team!
This was an amazing trip that was incredibly well run and thoughtfully arranged! Everything dramatically exceeded expectations, particularly the Trexperience team. Our guide Carlos Colca was helpful, knowledgeable and facilitated… read more a great group dynamic that was important as a solo traveler who had never done a group trip like this before. The chefs Celso and Abel worked nonstop preparing incredible three course meals in tents at 13k feet. Could not be happier or more impressed with how everything went. No prob-llamas.
My very friendly tour guide, Juvenal took me to an extended city tour around Cusco. He has a deep knowledge of Inca culture and history.
He even… read more brought with him a book to show me the photos and the history of each site. I learned a lot about the main Inca sites and enjoyed the tour very much.
It was one of the best city tours I ever have taken. I truly recommend this tour with Juvenal.
We had a fantastic time hiking the Inca Trail with Trexperience – genuinely cannot fault the tour, the food (which was incredible, some of the best we had in peru… read more and great for vegetarians) and our knowledgeable and lovely tour guides, Vianna and Johan. The organisation of the trip was 10/10 and we felt so lucky to experience it with such a great tour group. If you’re looking for an ethical tour company that treats its staff (including porters and chefs) well, then look no further and book with Trexperience! I was moved to hear the stories of each member of staff and it was great to be introduced to them all on day 3 of the hike.
The only thing which i think could be improved is the clarity around how much to tip before attending – the recommended tip overall worked out around £150 per person which we hadn’t understood and therefore hadn’t brought with us beforehand, so we then went to a cash point. Of course its entirely discretionary whether and how much to tip, however more clarity before the trek would have been really appreciated so we didn’t turn up shortchanged.
To begin with, however hard you think this might be, double it. This was the most difficult thing I think I’ve done in my life, although in my 50s my… read more knees probably would have fared better had I tried this 20 or 30 years ago.
Were it not for my faithful spouse and the never ending smiles in support by our Trexperience guides, William & Jonas, I might have given up on day two. They were always happy, always accommodating, while also making sure we continued to learn about the incredible Incan history. William’s love for his country and its history embodies all that he does on the trail. The food was unbelievable and I still can’t wrap my mind around how the cook was able to put together such tasty, filling food but also such a beautiful presentation for each meal. William & Jonas are pure souls & I’m better for having witnessed their patience & kindness.
The only real comforts on the trail were those amazing meals and the warm sleeping bag (although make sure to bring plenty of layers because there will at least be a few nights where you’re gonna need them in addition to the great sleeping bag; I also recommend paying extra for the small blow up pad). Oh, one more thing, the porters laid out hot bowls of water at the end of each hike so we could wash our hands in warm water. My husband and I used ours to take good, old-fashioned spit baths inside the tent because by evening it is always very cold and a little bit of hot water was nice. It’s the small things!
You won’t take a real shower for four full days unless you can stand the two places where there is an ice cold option; bathrooms are all along the trail but most don’t have toilet paper, almost none have a seat (ladies), & on the last part of the trail the toilets are in the ground. It was hell trying to squat after the previous days hikes & my legs weren’t happy.
Speaking of porters, my mind was blown. I couldn’t help but worry about the condition of their backs and knees as they age but so many of them have been doing this for years. Apparently the pay is good because their meals are included and they never seem to complain. After we were tucked in our tents at night we could hear them laughing among each other. They are a very strong, quiet crew and I was humbled and grateful each day as they passed us. The last evening they introduce themselves to us and their age is ranged from 20 to 47. We wouldn’t have been able to tell their ages. I feel very
privileged.
If you’re physically able, I highly recommend this life-changing event. You will meet amazing people, you’ll see views that will leave your jaw dropping, and you will find yourself physically uncomfortable and testing yourself in ways that will build character. It’s a good soul-searching trip as well. I’m forever grateful that we made the trip and would recommend William, Jonas, and this company a million times!!
We recently took part in the Salkantay Trek and loved every minute. Our guide Manolo was a constant source of positive energy from dawn til dusk (or after dusk)! He… read more told us stories of the Incas, of the stars and of the different Quechua communities and kept us entertained when the going (altitude) got tough. Melchor served up excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and somehow managed to bake a pie and a cake after a long day of trekking. Pedro and Juan were excellent su chefs and porters, waking us up with hot coca tea in the mornings and ensuring we had warm water to wash our hands and faces with after a long day of hiking, and even bringing us hot water bottles to keep us warm on the first and second night.
Communication from Trexperience in the run up to the trek was fantastic. The whole trek was organised really well, from collection from our hostel on the first day to drop off on the last day (including collecting our luggage from the office and then the onward travel from the office back to our hostel). Everything ran smoothly without the slightest glitch. Would highly recommend!

There were plenty delicious vegetarian options. On our treks, the views were breathtaking. The trekking was at points challenging on the second day but accessible to all levels and very rewarding. The tour guides were very supportive and always making sure everyone was doing well. Eddy and Juan had a lot of knowledge about the Incas and beautiful stories to tell us about their culture. Special mention to Jose Luis for being so positive and upbeat throughout the trip. Little by little we did it!! I can’t recommend this trip enough with these guys.
