I did the two day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu excursion with Robinzon as our guide. I am 43 and in good shape (HIIT workouts 2-3 times per week… read more and typically a 5K run each week). The trail wasn’t too bad, although parts could be challenging. I completed the trip in tennis shoes.
Robinzon was AMAZING!! He went at our pace (my 67 yo mother was with us) and was very patient. He was also very knowledgeable about history, flora, and fauna. Robinzon made sure we knew what was going on for each part of our trip and that we were taken care of- even checking in on mom the day after our trip! He took great pictures of us to document our experience. I wouldn’t have wanted any other guide- Robinzon was great!!

They took care of all our needs before we even realize it. Food was amazing, not just taste wise but also presentation. They took care of all our dietary needs as well and would work around . Our cook Ronaldo is nothing short of five star cook. You can feel his passion. All the team is super passionate about their culture and heritage and Edy kept explaining us about communities and their roles on our way to trek. He is very knowledgeable about Inca, pre Inca and other local civilizations. I can say on and on about how happy I am with my experience. Overall very nice trip.

Thank you for making this experience the best!

Oh and the food is divine!! We ate like kings thanks to chef Julio Cesar!

I’ll admit this was a gruelling trek, but the feeling of walking into Machu Picchu and all the history and culture along the way was so much better than taking… read more the train and bus in for a day trip. Half our group almost didnt complete the trip, two had sore knees from downhill steps, one had a sore back and altitude sickness, and a teenager burnt himself out on the first day throwing up and diarrhea. But our guides, Eddie and Rosa were excellent. They really cared about the group and lived the Quechuan culture of Family. Eddie was extremely passionate about the history and culture and Rosa was always smiling and laughing. porters from Pisac were also amazing. They ran around furiously after tirelessly hiking up and down dead womans pass to set up tents and mattresses for those that were struggling so they could get some rest. One of the group that was sick fell into some bushes and got small burrs all over his sweater. One porter spent half an hour picking the burrs out while he got some rest. Way above and beyond. Thank you Juvenal for all that you and your porters did for us. As most people say, the food was also excellent. Chef Raymundo made some amazing dishes and his fruit art was incredible. There was honestly way too much food. More than our group could possibly eat. If you want a truly unique experience and that once in lifetime experience of walking into Machu Picchu after a well earned trek, then do this trek. You definitely cant go wrong with TreXperience.
My husband and I booked this tour for our honeymoon and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences of our lives.
Amazing views, amazing food,… read more amazing people!
You get to journey through some beautiful landscapes – originally walked by the Incas – and see environments including grassland, cloud forest and jungle.
The group size is perfect (around 14 people) so you have time to talk to and get to know everyone.
At night you camp in the beautiful mountains and you don’t even have to put up your tents – there’s a team of amazing porters who do it all for you and your camp is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Speaking of the amazing porters, this includes a number of talented cooks who prepare you breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a mix of both traditional Peruvian and European food and it is absolutely delicious! (My husband and I had been suffering from travellers’ tummy before the hike, but this food put us right.)
The chefs even prepared an amazing cake and marshmallow birthday surprise for one hiker in the group, and on the last night my wife and I were presented with not one, but TWO chocolate cakes to celebrate our honeymoon!! Amazing!!
What makes you feel even better is that Trexperience is an ethical company, which treats the friendly team of porters well, makes sure they are paid properly and doesn’t make them work ridiculous hours, ie four day treks back-to-back. There are some porters along the trail who look absolutely EXHAUSTED and it does feel uncomfortable. However, with Trexperience you can be confident that in this company they are treated well.
Each day begins with an early breakfast before you start your hike. Day one is pretty easy, while days two and three are more challenging – some steep up and down hills.
However, if you haven’t done a hike before please don’t worry, all you need is good stamina, a positive attitude, and the will to succeed!
You walk through some BREATHTAKING landscapes and are constantly surrounding by mountains which are beautiful come rain or shine.
There’s waterfalls, wild animals, gorgeous flowers, and historical sites along the way.
Another point; if you are struggling, you can take as much time as you want and one of the hike leaders will stay with you.
All this, and I haven’t even mentioned our super tour leaders or Machu Picchu!!!
We had two tour leaders for our trip who had bounds of energy, enthusiasm and humour.
Each day, to break up the walks, our guides Erisban and Manolo would stop us for a rest and tell us about traditional Incan beliefs and customs. It was really interesting and a great way to learn about history as Erisban and Manolo are descended from the Incas.
They are very passionate and you could tell that they loved introducing their culture to us.
They were great fun to be around, always laughing and joking with the group, while they could always put you at ease if you were worried.
Thank you Manolo and Erisban – you were super!
The fourth and final day is the the highly anticipated two hour walk and visit to Machu Picchu.
The team wakes up very early and embarks on a beautiful hike to ‘Sun Gate’ – the viewing point opposite Macchu Picchu.
Here you can celebrate the completion of your journey, take in the awe inspiring scenery and (of course!) take celebratory selfies.
A visit to the Incan super-town really is a once in a lifetime experience and leaves you in awe of what was achieved hundreds of years ago.
After your visit, you take a bus (hooray!) down from the mountains to enjoy some llama burgers (seriously!) and some shopping before taking the panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo. A beautiful way to end a superb trip.
In conclusion, this is a once in a lifetime trip that you simply must do if you are planning on visiting Machu Picchu – and there’s only one group to do it with: Trexperience!

We had a bit of trouble with our luggage and TreXperience bent over backward to make sure we still had a great experience.

Overall, a great trek.

I can’t tell any favourit part of the tour, cause it was all great :)

We had two guides Robinzon and Walter who both were fantastic in keeping our spirits up even when morale was low due to the high altitude. They looked after us “fragile hikers” very well. Robinzon was our main guide who spoke English quite well and was able to share interesting stuff with us about Quechua people and the local flora and fauna. He had a great sense of humour and even made coffee for us on the Dead And Woman’s pass!!! What a life saver.
This was Walter’s first trip with an English speaking group and he dealt with us with the outmost care. He was so humble and lovely we really liked him.
About the porters:
For 8 people we had 16! Porters carrying everything for us! Primo was our head porter who made it to camp first everyday and claimed the best spots for our tents. These guys are the real super heroes running up the mountains with 20kg on their backs like it’s nothing. They greeted us with smiles and cheers every time we made it to camp. Whereas in actual reality they are the ones who deserve the cheering. We got hot water every night so we could wash off the dust of the road which I thought was a nice touch.
About dining:
We had 1 chef, 1 assistant chef and 1 waiter with us for the whole trip. This was a great opportunity to try local foods and get to know the different type of potatoes, fruits and corn of the region.
Every day 3 x we were treated like Inkas (kings) and were served at least 3 different types of dish.
Most evening meals were washed off by a Muna tea and we had nice fresh coffee at breakfast.
About the Inka trail:
We are hobby hikers and Munro baggers in Scotland ( so in good shape) but I would say that the trek was tough going. Although, It was worth all the pain for seeing a small part of the Andes and how people in there live. And of course the mighty Machu Picchu . We dreamt about being there so many times and experiencing it and after the 4 day trek it was even more special to us. We even climbed Wayna Picchu. The only thing is that due to the second climb we were not able to get a full tour (2.5 hrs maximum) and didn’t hear about the history of Machu Picchu as much as we would have liked to. But we can read all the books about it later while browsing through our pictures.
An amazing experience, with two social and knowledgeable guides, William and Jonner! They explained everything about the Inca culture.

This was an unforgettable experience start to finish. Our guides Robinson and Manollo together with the Pisac porters group took a great care of us and the whole organisation. The… read more guides were both native Andean and gave us authentic information about their culture and heritage which we really enjoyed. They not just explained by also often showed us live how they use different plants for water, food, medicine or building materials. Robinson made all the effort for us to really enjoy our vacation, especially being flexible with the schedule to allow us to see more of the amazing sites along the way. He even negotiated with a ranger in one of the Inka sites to allow us to stay longer and watch an amazing sunset. He came down with a stomach bug on a third day but despite that he kept going and we wouldn’t have even noticed it if he hadn’t missed the breakfast. Manollo especially impressed on us all of their Andean/Inka culture and religion that is still preserved to this day in his village; he made sure we were well entertained even through the difficult parts of the hike and even went so far to play the Andean flute for us on the final descent on the second day after two very big climbs. The echoes of his playing from the surrounding peaks created a magical atmosphere that is hard to describe. The chef and his assistants were the unexpected highlight of the trip. Throughout we ate amazing and authentic food on par with the best Peruvian restaurants and it came with the amazing food decorations to make the experience feast for eyes as well. Our porters did an amazing job as well. This was our first hike like this and we had no idea how much work porters put into it and how important it is. They carried so much more stuff than we expected and were running around the mountains to set up our lunch and night camps ahead of us to make sure they were ready whenever we arrived. They woke us up every morning with a hot coca tea and hot water of hot water to wash our faces and teeth and also welcomed us to night camps with hot water to wash and relax our feet after a long day of hiking. Most of the things they did for us we didn’t even knew we needed and in few cases we needed something they literally ran across the camp so that we don’t need to wait more than few seconds. It was an outstanding level of service, way above the level we’d expect coming from Europe. Overall it was a five star experience.
Unfortunately, it was too challenging for us (in our 60s) so if you’re over 55 our advice is not to attempt it unless you are superfit. However, If you are… read more planning to do the 4 day challenge, TreXPerience is most highly recommended. We trekked with Charly – who took full care of us and when it was clear that we would not be able to carry on, he and TreXperience were supreme in their support of us arranging to have us accompanied from the trek back to where we could be collected by motorbike and then taken to km.82, where a driver picked us up and took us to a hotel which the company had arranged for us. The company (and Charly when he could connect to data) were in constant contact with us advising us on how to make the journey by transport to Aguascalientes and onward to Machu Picchu where we met up with the group again. Everyone (Charley, Tom, Coronel, porters and drivers), where outstanding in their care of us and, they will be our first of call for any other tours when we come back to Cusco. Our guide Miguel was aswell very good, friendly and knew a lot about what we were having a look at. Specially showing us his house at a lunch or his neighbor señora carmen doing chicha, were very nice experiences.
Little minus, sometimes he tried to do it too well and it got stressfull (example: one morning we had a train to catch, first he made us run to the train station, then we needed to buy something to protect the sticks even though we rented them from trexperience and in the end we were waiting more then 10 minutes inside the train because we were too early). Also forcing us to fill out this recommendation at least 3 times made an unnecessary pressure.

Everyone on this team worked extremely hard to make sure we were all happy. I’m very glad we booked this trip and had the team that we did!

They cleaned, packed up, and still beat us to the next site in time to make it as comfy for us as possible. I would highly recommend this experience with the Trexperience team!!

Our guide Nilo… read more was excellent. He is a great guy with so much knowledge of the land and culture to teach you. They think of every detail and let you know what to expect everyday which makes things so stress free. The visit to Machu picchu was so informative thanks to Nilo’s expertise! Thanks again Nilo and the entire TreXperience team!!
