The four day trek is a unique way to learn about and appreciate the local culture and nature. We had taken the train to Macchu Picchu a few years earlier… read more but the hiking trip really puts this unique wonder in perspective. Carlos and Joao were awesome guides; knowledgeable, experienced, patient. Given the restrictions by the ministry of culture— e.g. the locations of campsites and the facilities, the tour company has done an awesome job. The food by the chef Julio Cesar, was amazing: a high end introduction to the Peruvian cuisine. A team of porters had to transport everything on foot up to the three camp sites and cook the food on site. Everything was provided by the team- tours of Inca sites along the way and of course the tour of Machu Picchu at the end.
Our hosts Vannia and Jonah were incredible. They both were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their work. The food was definitely the highlight of this tour. Very well prepared and… read more of high quality. The porters were amazing, always there to assist and help. I recommend this trip as a must, it’s one you should not miss out on experiencing. Our group of five took the 5 day Trexperience Salkantay Trek and it was really fantastic. We can only recommend it to anyone thinking of taking on the challenge (it… read more wasn’t actually as hard as we thought it would be but we are quite a fit group!). Our guide Adolfo had lots of great history and stories to tell, which were usually accompanied by ridiculously good food cooked by Amilcar and his team. Seriously, we ate better than we did in Cusco most nights!
The camping equipment was all of a very good standard, and the added touch of a hot water bottle on night one which was the coldest (-5C degrees) was hugely appreciated by all. In addition, the logistics of our trip w ere incredibly well organised thanks to Amilcar, Elmer, Wilburgh and Cecilio, meaning that nothing was amiss and we did everything in good time.
We were very unlucky with our weather on Day 5, and unfortunately the clouds never parted for us to get a full view of Machu Picchu, which Adolfo told us had never happened in his 15 years of experience (cries inside). Nonetheless, he was very cheerful and told us all the history very enthusiastically to still make it a memorable experience.
If we trek in Cusco again, I think Trexperience would certainly be our choice and our group would all highly recommend to others.
Thanks Adolfo and team!

Our chefs and porters worked so hard and made the trek so much easier for us. Thank you to our chefs Celso and Abel for the incredible food each and everyday! Every meal was fantastic!! It’s amazing what they can cook in the mountains.

Our second guide, Melky, was so sweet and fun to talk to on the hikes! The chefs are incredible and we were always full with food and accommodated the specific dietary restrictions of some people in the group. Literally a breathtaking experience with the physical demand of the hike and epic views. You wake up before sunrise and hike all day. Caution: Athleticism and fitness are essential to enjoying this hike. As an experienced backpacker, this is a difficult hike even with just a day pack. Expect steep ascents, switch backs into high altitude and slippery, loose rock, muddy descents into the jungle. Recommend hiking poles if you have knee problems. Trexperiece did a fantastic job, well organized, great value, and overall once in a lifetime experience!!!

The organisation of the trip was 10/10 and we felt so lucky to experience it with such a great tour group. I was moved to hear the stories of each member of staff and it was great to be introduced to them all on day 3 of the hike.
The only thing which i think could be improved is the clarity around how much to tip before attending – the recommended tip overall worked out around £150 per person which we hadn’t understood and therefore hadn’t brought with us beforehand, so we then went to a cash point. Of course its entirely discretionary whether and how much to tip, however more clarity before the trek would have been really appreciated so we didn’t turn up shortchanged.
We just finished the 4D3N Inca Trek and TreXperience took the best care of us. Robbie and his team made sure the whole family finished the trek. TreXperience is a world class tour operator that puts a high priority on safety and customer service. We highly recommend them! Our family of four (with 18 and… read more 13 year old) booked the 4D/3N Classic Inca Trail.
I was recovering from a prior cold/illness before the trek began so was already at a deficit. When you add in the unpredictability of altitude sickness, anything can happen. Needless to say, I struggled significantly to make it to campsite 1. I was extremely fatigued, nauseous, coughing, and my breathing was extremely labored.
Unfortunately, I didn’t sleep well that evening, could hear wheezing and my cough seem to get much worse. Knowing that Day 2 was the most difficult, to ascend an additional 4,000 feet at a very steep incline to reach a maximum altitude of 13,795 feet, I knew my physical limitations and didn’t want to put the entire group at risk. Therefore, I decided to descend.
I expected one of the porters to accompany me down, but it was not allowed. Instead, one of our tour guides, Sarita, escorted me down the mountain and went above and beyond to assist me and my 13 year old son (who voluntarily descended to look after his mother).
My daughter (18 year old) and husband continued onward and had an amazing experience. The trek was challenging albeit quite rewarding. Taking the trail gives you incomparable views from the sun gate that you cannot get trying to do Machu Picchu on your own.
We highly recommend TreXperience and ask for Sarita and Eddie!!
Sarita was AMAZING! Her English speaking skills were exceptional. She was kind, patient, and encouraging, telling me to go at my own pace and to stay hydrated. She was always willing to help, answer any questions, and provided great background knowledge about the Peruvian culture.
After a successful descent, Sarita went even further above and beyond. She assisted us in making hotel arrangements in Ollantaytambo and Agua Calientes, booked our train and bus tickets, escorted us to the train and hotel, offered to show us the Ollantaytambo archeological site or textile markets in our downtime, and successfully reunited us with my husband and daughter as they hiked into Machu Picchu on Day 4. Sarita was able to persuade the park ranger to allow us entry to the top terrace (Sun Gate ) to capture the postcard family photo of Machu Picchu.
All of the logistics of coordinating transport, lodging, and reuniting us with the group was not expected but greatly appreciated. We were very grateful to have Sarita by our side to help us with this process. Thank you TreXperience for being an outstanding tour operator with excellent guides.
