What A Trip!! Russell and Rosa were such excellent guides for this classic Inca Trail trip. We learned so much history along the way while being challenged with breath taking… read more hiking trails. The support staff and Julio Cesar our chef made the trip even more amazing with delicious local Peruvian dishes and comfortable camping experiences. I made great friends along the way despite knowing individuals for only 4 days. Machu Picchu is the icing on the cake as you enter this beautiful scenic ruin city. I promise you will not regret booking a trip with TreXperience!!
Our tour guide was José Calderon. We are very pleased about him. The trek was amazing. Spectacular views and by the end of a hard day the chefs prepared us… read more a delicious meal.
I was looking for an alternative trekking experience and came across Huchuy Qosqo +Inca Trail 4D offered by Trexperience.
I’m a solo traveler so I booked just for… read more myself and it also turned out I was the only person (still low no. of tourists in post-pandemic and everyone goes for Inca or Salkantay trek) to book this trekking on specific dates.
Trexperience therefore basically organised a private trekking for me. For the first two days it was just me, my guide Maribel, chef Samuel and sous-chef Cipriano trekking to Huchuy Qosqo. And they took such a great care of me. Maribel is a fantastic and passionate guide with great English. She was my mom, my sister, my friend, my guide, my everything for two days. She’s also super knowledgeable about all the fauna and flora in the Andes and also she knows a lot about the Inca history. I could have not wished fot a better guide than Maribel!
Samuel and Cipriano were a great company too. And they were preparing delicious food. It was a true gourmet experience! Meals were big and they prepared variety of delicious food.
Maribel, Samuel and Cipriano were like family to me and I’m so grateful for the time we spent together. The last day they also taught me how to make a traditional Peruvian bbq! :)
Oh and I highly recommend Huchuy Qosqo trekking, beautiful landscapes and views. A lot of llamas and alpacas but no tourists or crowds like on Inca/Salkantay trek.
The next two days I joined a small group of five for the Short Inca trail. Also a great experience and I recommend asking for Jose Luis (Pepe). He is fun and experienced Machu Picchu guide!
Overall I highly recommend Trexperience!
Very nice experience. A top team with the guide Jose Calderon and the chef Amilcar. The food was incredible good and even we have been only two people, the provided… read more us the full service. The trip was a truly an amazing experience. The scenery was simply stunning, it is a journey that makes the visit to Machu Picchu extra special. A special mention to… read more our guide Herbeth, our cook Valentine and the rest of the team who supported us throughout. Herbeth was extremely knowledgeable, supporting and friendly, a great person and guide. And without Valentine and his excellent and plentiful food we definitely wouldn’t have made it!
Weather was excellent too but do bring warm clothes for June.
I would recommend this trip to anyone (who has good fitness) to complete this trek!
We had the most amazing time on this trek with the best group of 8 people from around the world. You truly become best friends and a family in 4… read more days!
We had two guides Robinzon and Walter who both were fantastic in keeping our spirits up even when morale was low due to the high altitude. They looked after us “fragile hikers” very well. Robinzon was our main guide who spoke English quite well and was able to share interesting stuff with us about Quechua people and the local flora and fauna. He had a great sense of humour and even made coffee for us on the Dead And Woman’s pass!!! What a life saver.
This was Walter’s first trip with an English speaking group and he dealt with us with the outmost care. He was so humble and lovely we really liked him.
About the porters:
For 8 people we had 16! Porters carrying everything for us! Primo was our head porter who made it to camp first everyday and claimed the best spots for our tents. These guys are the real super heroes running up the mountains with 20kg on their backs like it’s nothing. They greeted us with smiles and cheers every time we made it to camp. Whereas in actual reality they are the ones who deserve the cheering. We got hot water every night so we could wash off the dust of the road which I thought was a nice touch.
About dining:
We had 1 chef, 1 assistant chef and 1 waiter with us for the whole trip. This was a great opportunity to try local foods and get to know the different type of potatoes, fruits and corn of the region.
Every day 3 x we were treated like Inkas (kings) and were served at least 3 different types of dish.
Most evening meals were washed off by a Muna tea and we had nice fresh coffee at breakfast.
About the Inka trail:
We are hobby hikers and Munro baggers in Scotland ( so in good shape) but I would say that the trek was tough going. Although, It was worth all the pain for seeing a small part of the Andes and how people in there live. And of course the mighty Machu Picchu . We dreamt about being there so many times and experiencing it and after the 4 day trek it was even more special to us. We even climbed Wayna Picchu. The only thing is that due to the second climb we were not able to get a full tour (2.5 hrs maximum) and didn’t hear about the history of Machu Picchu as much as we would have liked to. But we can read all the books about it later while browsing through our pictures.
The entire trip was impeccably planned. Pepe and Filio were extremely knowledgeable guides! The chef Sinche was amazing the food and the presentation were top notch, couldn’t believe it given… read more the circumstances of being so far away from a big city.
I have hiked quit a lot, but this experience is different and unique with porters and chiefs services. I highly recommend it to anyone who don’t mind outdoor living… read more for a few days. More specifically, here are what I like and some thoughts
Like:
1. The porters are working very hard for very little, and they are very attentive, eager to please if we need anything. I would suggest to bring a lot more changes to tip them.
2. Our guides, Carlos and Joao are very personable and fun, knowable and experienced. I have enjoyed the interaction with them greatly. I wish I asked them a lot more questions, cultural and personal.
3. The chief ( Julio) and meals are excellent, I am amazed how did he manage to produce the meals with beautiful presentation under such primitive conditions? Again, the porters bring in everything include cooking stove, pots and pans, propane etc Tip is: be prepared to eat three square meal a day!:-)
Suggestions:
1. Company could ask us to indicate the t-shirt size ahead of time online to make it easier for the guides.
2. I would like to stick to the same sleeping bag and pillow, so a system to put our name there would be helpful.
3. For travelers, I wish I read more about the history so I can learn even more from the trip.
It was a wonderful experience, the trail/place and the people have touched me deeply, and I’d do it again!

It was amazing, but a very hard Trek.

We had a fantastic 4 day hiking tour to Machu Picchu on the Luxury Private tour. The hikes are challenging and so beautiful. (Some on the internet made it sound… read more nearly impossible which it was not) We hiked about 10 km every day and reached camp by the afternoon and could rest for the next day. Edy, our guide, coordinated the 18 porters and the cooks to make our trip extraordinary. Edy like the porters is Quetchua, the descendents of the Inca. He taught us a lot about the culture, history, and mystical stories. He made us realize that the Inca trail is so special because it runs through the sacred valley bounded by the sacred mountains and river. The stunning views and learning about the Incas and the Quechua made the hike seem other worldly. The service was extraordinary by Trexperience. Our porters not only carried our things but also decorated our tents with pillows and dolls. The luxury tour provides a hot shower each night and massage. Vanessa gave us first class massages after the hike. Valentine, the head chef, made us beautiful, tasty meals and the food is served on real plates and utensils. I am also pleased to support Trexperience which is owned by two Quechuan brothers. The Inca trail provides great economic support to the Quechua and they are very happy to share this sacred valley with the hikers. We highly recommend booking your trip through Trexperience.

Yoner’s happy disposition kept spirits up even during the most challenging sections. I learned more on this trek than I ever expected to. Rolando, the head chef on our tour, made delicious food every time, and made not one but two cakes (one was vegan) to celebrate the birthday of one member of our group. Everyone, from the porters, to the waiter (Jesus), to the chef, to our tour guides, made this a wonderful experience I will never forget.

Highly recommend for backpackers and adventure seekers! Our guide Luis, was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to teach us about everything from foods, plants, peoples, rocks, etc etc.… read more He was super attentive to everyone and just over all good genuine guy. Our second guide, Melky, was so sweet and fun to talk to on the hikes! The chefs are incredible and we were always full with food and accommodated the specific dietary restrictions of some people in the group. We rented sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and hiking poles and tent were comfy! Loved waking up to hot tea every morning. Expect noise at night from animals, roosters and dogs are specifically loud. Literally a breathtaking experience with the physical demand of the hike and epic views. You wake up before sunrise and hike all day. Caution: Athleticism and fitness are essential to enjoying this hike. As an experienced backpacker, this is a difficult hike even with just a day pack. Expect steep ascents, switch backs into high altitude and slippery, loose rock, muddy descents into the jungle. Recommend hiking poles if you have knee problems. Trexperiece did a fantastic job, well organized, great value, and overall once in a lifetime experience!!!

We had an outstanding experience on the 5-day Lares to Short Inca trail with Juvenal as our guide, Lorenzo as our chef, Joao as assistant chef, and Toribio as our… read more porter. We were a small group (3) and the entire crew took incredible care of us to share the magical culture and scenery in the Sacred Valley. Please see the end of the review for a note on preparing for the altitude and general hike difficulty.
First and foremost, we thank our amazing guide, Juvenal, for bringing his in-depth knowledge for and love of the culture and people in the highlands of Lares. By communicating with local people (in Quechua), Juvenal was able to deliver an unparalleled experience of the incredible lifestyle, culture, and practices of the native people here. We were extremely moved and honored to share beautiful moments with the wonderful people of the highlands.
Juvenal also shared in-depth knowledge of the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations throughout the trek, and especially on the way to the stunningly beautiful and jaw-dropping ruins at Machu Picchu. The short Inca trail was an excellent way to reach Machu Picchu through the Sun gate (stunning view from here) in a single day’s hike.
We are so grateful for all of Juvenal’s knowledge and warm spirit. He makes a point to treat all people (not just us, but local people, the rest of the crew etc.) with kindness and respect. We couldn’t ask for a better guide for our experience. Thank you Juvenal!
Our head chef, Lorenzo, and his assistant Joao were absolutely incredible as well. Lorenzo blew our minds with how delicious (and even aesthetically pleasing) he could prepare meals while camping at 13,000 feet. My partner is vegetarian and he prepared an elaborate collection of nutritious and tailored meals for her along the way. He even prepared special meals when we both were struggling a bit with the altitude. Thank you Lorenzo and Joao!
Finally, our porter, Toribio, never ceased to impress with how quickly and safely he transported the our and the crew’s gear with his team of mules. It is astonishing how well he and his mules move through such a difficult landscape. Thank you Toribio!
We could never have anticipated how incredible and enriching this experience would be for all three of us. Not only did we see some the most incredible views of our lives, but we also learned and experienced an extremely rare and beautiful way of life that the native people of the highlands carry on. Their strength and kindness will stay with us for our entire lives.
A quick note on the demands of the trek itself. The three of us (ages 29-32, active and relatively experienced hikers) found the Lares portion very challenging due to it being at an altitude that none of us had hiked in before. We also made the mistake of not giving ourselves ample time to acclimate to the altitude in Cusco before starting the trek (and also tried to do it without altitude medication etc.). The coca tea/leaves helped to an extent but we absolutely recommend taking time (2-3 days) to acclimate in Cusco and taking altitude medication if you (like us) are not used to hiking at altitude. That way, nothing (besides the usual challenges of a difficult hike) gets in the way of your experience.
Even besides the altitude, this is a very challenging trek, so make sure you are comfortable with steep inclines/declines and heights in general before hiking the Andes. If you are up for the challenge, it is absolutely incredible!
Thank you Juvenal, Lorenzo, Joao, Toribio, and all of the beautiful people we met along the way for an unforgettable experience!!

Not only was our tour filled with breathtaking views and informative lessons, it was welcoming and filled with even better people! I would highly recommend this to others.

Our guide Miguel was aswell very good, friendly and knew a lot about what we were having a look at. Little minus, sometimes he tried to do it too well and it got stressfull (example: one morning we had a train to catch, first he made us run to the train station, then we needed to buy something to protect the sticks even though we rented them from trexperience and in the end we were waiting more then 10 minutes inside the train because we were too early). I don’t know how they managed to cook such an wholesome dishes in conditions that one finds on a hike, but it was incredible, from traditional Peruvian soups, ceviche to cakes (yes, that’s right). The guides were always helpful, cheerful and ready to say something interesting. Porters were supporting and the service they provide is unbelievable, we didn’t worry about anything (and there is a lot of things to worry about/they provide: food, camps, water, tents and other facilities), because we knew that we can rely on them.

Robinzon and Manolo were the best guides one could ask for; they were both incredibly versed in the trail/sites, the Inka history and culture. They took the time, and gave us the time, to explore every site on the way to Machu Picchu. And on top of that, they provided us with a wealth of personal and cultural information from their own Quechua (Inka) backgrounds, which made this a truly authentic experience.
I also have to say that our porters, Grupo Pisaq, made this trip run as smoothly and as professionally as anyone hiking 4 days in extreme altitudes could ask for. The huge, added bonus were the 3 daily meals which were local flavor and on par with any top-notch Peruvian restaurant that you’d find out in "civilization". Thank you for everything!
