Overall a great experience. Just note that you will be sharing the trail with your group, other groups, and the 20+ porters for each group. it can feel a bit crowded at times.
Also, if you are from a country without a tipping culture – and especially if you’re on a tight budget – be aware that there is a strong expectation of significant tips at the end for the guides, chef and porters that accompany you along the way. They tell you it’s voluntary but it won’t feel that way.

From the moment Jose picked us up at our hotel, we were treated with the best logistically organised and informative tour we could have hoped for. He also taught us how to take the BEST Iphone pics (as a value-add) and was more than happy to share story and a laugh.
What a delightful, stress-free tour. There is no way we would have been able to see what we did in the time with as little stress were it not for Jose and this tour. Well worth it and will be recommending to others.

Even at camp, chef not only prepared a wonderful variety of more than we could eat, but the presentation was unbelievable. We even had fresh flowers on the tables! Our morning started with hot cocoa tea delivered to our tents, then a breakfast for champions. After hiking all morning, a terrific lunch was served, At the end of a full day of trekking, we enjoyed “tea time” popcorn, crackers and jam, hot chocolate, and of course tea. From time of booking through Tour Radar, TreXperience had impeccable communication and… read more provided helpful information. We met our tour guide, Filio, in Cusco the night before and honestly we had the best time with him over the 4 days. He was great, funny and knowledgeable about all things Inca. He even taught us some Quechan. We were very lucky as there was only my husband and I so it became a private tour (great price!) and Filio was very patient with our pace. He was also a great photographer. Pedro was also an amazing cook and we could not fault any of the dishes. Was delicious so definitely consider booking via TreXperience as they are also a local company at a very good price compared to other Australian companies we were looking at!

Overall, a great trek.

The entire team goes absolutely above and beyond to make the experience great. This would not be possible without you!

My husband and I booked this tour for our honeymoon and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences of our lives.
Amazing views, amazing food,… read more amazing people!
You get to journey through some beautiful landscapes – originally walked by the Incas – and see environments including grassland, cloud forest and jungle.
The group size is perfect (around 14 people) so you have time to talk to and get to know everyone.
At night you camp in the beautiful mountains and you don’t even have to put up your tents – there’s a team of amazing porters who do it all for you and your camp is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Speaking of the amazing porters, this includes a number of talented cooks who prepare you breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a mix of both traditional Peruvian and European food and it is absolutely delicious! (My husband and I had been suffering from travellers’ tummy before the hike, but this food put us right.)
The chefs even prepared an amazing cake and marshmallow birthday surprise for one hiker in the group, and on the last night my wife and I were presented with not one, but TWO chocolate cakes to celebrate our honeymoon!! Amazing!!
What makes you feel even better is that Trexperience is an ethical company, which treats the friendly team of porters well, makes sure they are paid properly and doesn’t make them work ridiculous hours, ie four day treks back-to-back. There are some porters along the trail who look absolutely EXHAUSTED and it does feel uncomfortable. However, with Trexperience you can be confident that in this company they are treated well.
Each day begins with an early breakfast before you start your hike. Day one is pretty easy, while days two and three are more challenging – some steep up and down hills.
However, if you haven’t done a hike before please don’t worry, all you need is good stamina, a positive attitude, and the will to succeed!
You walk through some BREATHTAKING landscapes and are constantly surrounding by mountains which are beautiful come rain or shine.
There’s waterfalls, wild animals, gorgeous flowers, and historical sites along the way.
Another point; if you are struggling, you can take as much time as you want and one of the hike leaders will stay with you.
All this, and I haven’t even mentioned our super tour leaders or Machu Picchu!!!
We had two tour leaders for our trip who had bounds of energy, enthusiasm and humour.
Each day, to break up the walks, our guides Erisban and Manolo would stop us for a rest and tell us about traditional Incan beliefs and customs. It was really interesting and a great way to learn about history as Erisban and Manolo are descended from the Incas.
They are very passionate and you could tell that they loved introducing their culture to us.
They were great fun to be around, always laughing and joking with the group, while they could always put you at ease if you were worried.
Thank you Manolo and Erisban – you were super!
The fourth and final day is the the highly anticipated two hour walk and visit to Machu Picchu.
The team wakes up very early and embarks on a beautiful hike to ‘Sun Gate’ – the viewing point opposite Macchu Picchu.
Here you can celebrate the completion of your journey, take in the awe inspiring scenery and (of course!) take celebratory selfies.
A visit to the Incan super-town really is a once in a lifetime experience and leaves you in awe of what was achieved hundreds of years ago.
After your visit, you take a bus (hooray!) down from the mountains to enjoy some llama burgers (seriously!) and some shopping before taking the panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo. A beautiful way to end a superb trip.
In conclusion, this is a once in a lifetime trip that you simply must do if you are planning on visiting Machu Picchu – and there’s only one group to do it with: Trexperience!
Thank you guys for an amazing honeymoon and unforgettable memories x

My wife and I did a private 4 day tour where we had a private guide, 5 porters and a cook. My wife was 6 months pregnant, but was able to hike the whole thing with no issue. It can be a bit challenging, but as long as you acclimate like 3-4 days before in Cusco or the sacred valley you will be fine.
We booked 4 months out and they maintained god communication. They were flexible on meeting up 2 days before the trip to give us the overview and the duffels we would pack. Of note you can put more weight in your duffles as the trip progresses, because as you eat food the overall load of the porters lightens.
The first day is easy. The staff pitches camp for you in full each day. And they set up a private dining tent. The second day is challenging since you do about ~4200 ft of elevation change. There are a lot of steep stone steps after you come down from dead woman’s pass. Poles help a lot, but your knees will be sore after. The third day is some good ascent, but not as bad as the day before, but be prepared for a long day with lots of steps down, it is insanely steep, the last day is easy and Machu Picchu is great.
Lunch in Agua Caliente is good, but you have to wait a few hours for the train, it only runs once in the afternoon. We got an hour massage to kill time and sally enjoyed it.
As a recommendation I would say the more time you have to acclimate the better, the altitude can take down strong men. Also read about the area in advance and learn about Inca history, it makes it much more enjoyable. Bring extra to tip the guides and staff. You will have an immense amount of respect for what they do by the end of trip.
You will not regret booking this hike.

Oh and the food is divine!! We ate like kings thanks to chef Julio Cesar!
I am really Grateful for this experience and would recommend it to anyone!!!!
This was not just a four day hike. It was a total experience from learning about Incas history from our amazing tour guide Edy, to experience authentic Peruvian food in… read more the middle of mountains by chef Raymundo, to appreciate the humbleness and kindness of porters who carried all the necessary stuff for us and make us feel welcomed and appreciated. This was one of the most amazing excursions of my life! I’m a pretty experienced traveler and been on many tours, and this was something else. It was extremely well… read more organized, the porters were super heroes, and our chef Julio Cesar was a master in the kitchen! Our meals were so thoughtful and delicious. It’s amazing what he can put together in the middle of nowhere with such an amazing staff to help him. Everyone with the company was very thoughtful and helpful with anything we needed.
Our guide, Carlos Ccolcca, was the absolute best! He was so knowledgeable and personable. He really took care of us during the entire trip.
What wasn’t expected was that in our group of 7, which would be a great for intimacy and bonding, there would be a couple from the Netherlands who were VERY sick and demanded much of our guide’s time. They were unbelievably rude and selfish as to their needs when they should have ultimately decided NOT to take part in a physically demanding multiple day hike. We also had three teenagers who were not accompanied by their parent. The kids also hiked as fast as possible from point A to point B, leaving the rest of the group behind. Our guide had to stay behind with the sick people for safety reasons. The parent of said teenagers apparently decided that our guide was supposed to be their babysitter, and made it known that she felt her children should have been watched over 24-7, which in this situation with the Dutch couple, was not possible. Carlos did the absolute best he could in the situation and to make our time memorable.
Anyone who takes part in a tour knows how important the synchronicity of a group is to the overall experience, and unfortunately selfish sick people and unaccompanied children aren’t a great contribution to that. Tour gets 5 stars, but our group gets 2 stars!
The trip was amazing experience! Everything was really well organised. The night before the adventure we had a meeting when everything about the tour was explained and all questions were… read more answered. Campsites were really great equipped, with our own toilet, good tents and proper sleeping bags (up to -10deg, so we didn’t get cold at night). And food at the campsite is as just great! Lunches and dinners with a few courser, breakfast full of options like pancakes, fruits, eggs. Everything was super delicious! Our guide JJ was incredibly amazing. He explained us everything about Incas culture and habits. He told us story of each temple we passed. Fully recommend to experience the Inca trail with this company!
