From the moment we met Robbie the night before the trek, he explained it very thoroughly and made us feel at ease that he is going to be our guide.… read more Robbie took great care of us during the trek, made sure we stay hydrated and breaks as needed. He was very informative with all the Inca sites along the way to Machu Picchu. We def learned about the history of Peru. The porters were amazing. At each stop site for lunch and dinner we were given fresh water and soap to wash our hands. Every moment with TreXperience were very thoughtful! To top it off, our guide Robbie made us hot espresso when we arrive to the highest peak of the trek! It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! You definitely won’t regret if you choose TreX
This was such an amazing experience. From tour guides Edy and Rosa, the porters from Pisac, and our amazing chef, this Trexperience team was absolutely amazing! They went above and… read more beyond to make this trip a once in a lifetime experience. The food rivaled anything you could find in the nicest restaurant, and the porters were just superhuman. They carried all the bags, equipment, and supplies, they beat us to camp, set up and cooked, and readied our tents and campsite. They cleaned, packed up, and still beat us to the next site in time to make it as comfy for us as possible. I would highly recommend this experience with the Trexperience team!!
We had an excellent trip with our guide Edwin and his team from TreXperience. I couldn’t wish for a better guide. He was always ready to help and had so… read more many laughs together. While walking he also checked on us many times to see how we were doing. My girlfriend was a bit afraid about the difficulty of the trek (because of her bad knees), but with Edwin by our side, this worry was quickly gone. Also the chef, sous-chef and the horseman were incredible. They did everything to make it comfortable for us and to bring very good food to the table. Thank you for this experience. This would not be possible without you!

We recently took part in the Salkantay Trek and loved every minute. Our guide Manolo was a constant source of positive energy from dawn til dusk (or after dusk)! He… read more told us stories of the Incas, of the stars and of the different Quechua communities and kept us entertained when the going (altitude) got tough. Melchor served up excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and somehow managed to bake a pie and a cake after a long day of trekking. Pedro and Juan were excellent su chefs and porters, waking us up with hot coca tea in the mornings and ensuring we had warm water to wash our hands and faces with after a long day of hiking, and even bringing us hot water bottles to keep us warm on the first and second night.
Communication from Trexperience in the run up to the trek was fantastic. The whole trek was organised really well, from collection from our hostel on the first day to drop off on the last day (including collecting our luggage from the office and then the onward travel from the office back to our hostel). Everything ran smoothly without the slightest glitch. Would highly recommend!
Trexperience really does tick all the boxes. JJ and Yoner were awesome guides and were flexible to the variety of paces within the group. JJ was very knowledgeable and gave… read more us an extensive history lesson throughout. The porters simply are not human, the trip would be impossible without them. What the chefs were capable of using camp kitchens still boggles the mind; so much variety and taste. They really do get the little details right, hot/cold water to wash the day off, hot coca tea before you even leave the tent, regular water where possible. Even if other providers are cheaper, go with this company!

Highly recommend for backpackers and adventure seekers! Our second guide, Melky, was so sweet and fun to talk to on the hikes! The chefs are incredible and we were always full with food and accommodated the specific dietary restrictions of some people in the group. We rented sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and hiking poles and tent were comfy! Loved waking up to hot tea every morning. Expect noise at night from animals, roosters and dogs are specifically loud. Literally a breathtaking experience with the physical demand of the hike and epic views. You wake up before sunrise and hike all day. Caution: Athleticism and fitness are essential to enjoying this hike. As an experienced backpacker, this is a difficult hike even with just a day pack. Expect steep ascents, switch backs into high altitude and slippery, loose rock, muddy descents into the jungle. Recommend hiking poles if you have knee problems. Trexperiece did a fantastic job, well organized, great value, and overall once in a lifetime experience!!!

My wife and I did a private 4 day tour where we had a private guide, 5 porters and a cook. My wife was 6 months pregnant, but was able to hike the whole thing with no issue. It can be a bit challenging, but as long as you acclimate like 3-4 days before in Cusco or the sacred valley you will be fine.
We booked 4 months out and they maintained god communication. They were flexible on meeting up 2 days before the trip to give us the overview and the duffels we would pack. Of note you can put more weight in your duffles as the trip progresses, because as you eat food the overall load of the porters lightens.
The first day is easy. The staff pitches camp for you in full each day. And they set up a private dining tent. The second day is challenging since you do about ~4200 ft of elevation change. There are a lot of steep stone steps after you come down from dead woman’s pass. Poles help a lot, but your knees will be sore after. The third day is some good ascent, but not as bad as the day before, but be prepared for a long day with lots of steps down, it is insanely steep, the last day is easy and Machu Picchu is great.
Lunch in Agua Caliente is good, but you have to wait a few hours for the train, it only runs once in the afternoon. We got an hour massage to kill time and sally enjoyed it.
As a recommendation I would say the more time you have to acclimate the better, the altitude can take down strong men. Also read about the area in advance and learn about Inca history, it makes it much more enjoyable. Bring extra to tip the guides and staff. You will have an immense amount of respect for what they do by the end of trip.
You will not regret booking this hike.
Amazing trail with amazing views! Our private guide Jose Luis made those 2 days such a fun and great experience. The best guide we ever had!
Unfortunately, it was too challenging for us (in our 60s) so if you’re over 55 our advice is not to attempt it unless you are superfit. However, If you are… read more planning to do the 4 day challenge, TreXPerience is most highly recommended. We trekked with Charly – who took full care of us and when it was clear that we would not be able to carry on, he and TreXperience were supreme in their support of us arranging to have us accompanied from the trek back to where we could be collected by motorbike and then taken to km.82, where a driver picked us up and took us to a hotel which the company had arranged for us. The company (and Charly when he could connect to data) were in constant contact with us advising us on how to make the journey by transport to Aguascalientes and onward to Machu Picchu where we met up with the group again. Everyone (Charley, Tom, Coronel, porters and drivers), where outstanding in their care of us and, they will be our first of call for any other tours when we come back to Cusco. Charly is also impressive as an historian and passionate about his culture.

The Inca Trail was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Expensive but worth every penny. They did everything in their power to make our experience the best… read more it could have been. The food was amazing, and there was a lot! We woke up with a coca tea every morning, a huge varied breakfast, beautiful lunch later on, “happy hour” with lots of snacks and hot drinks followed by buffet dinner with delicious local dishes and nutritious food. There were plenty delicious vegetarian options. On our treks, the views were breathtaking. The trekking was at points challenging on the second day but accessible to all levels and very rewarding. The tour guides were very supportive and always making sure everyone was doing well. Eddy and Juan had a lot of knowledge about the Incas and beautiful stories to tell us about their culture. They were clearly very passionate and love their job. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is lucky enough to do it!
This company "suggests" that everyone should tip 80-100 sols to each porters and 10-15% of the tour fee to guide as a tip after booking. it’s not right to… read more inform that after booking. Even though each tour company said that tips are not included. but I have asked people who booked other travel agencies and there is no "suggestion" on how much to tip.
The tour fee is 700 US dollars per person. Even if each person gives minimum 10% as the tips(70USD), our group was 16 people, then that is 1,120 US dollars for the tour guides for 4 days working. I think that’s too much. I’m totally fine with the tips for porters, because they really did hard work. but giving 70 USD for our tour guides? Nope

Our tour guides Edy and Juan were very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic and I really enjoyed their company throughout.
Overall a great experience. Just note that you will be sharing the trail with your group, other groups, and the 20+ porters for each group. it can feel a bit crowded at times.
Also, if you are from a country without a tipping culture – and especially if you’re on a tight budget – be aware that there is a strong expectation of significant tips at the end for the guides, chef and porters that accompany you along the way. They tell you it’s voluntary but it won’t feel that way.

From the moment Jose picked us up at our hotel, we were treated with the best logistically organised and informative tour we could have hoped for. He also taught us how to take the BEST Iphone pics (as a value-add) and was more than happy to share story and a laugh.
What a delightful, stress-free tour. There is no way we would have been able to see what we did in the time with as little stress were it not for Jose and this tour. Well worth it and will be recommending to others.

The tents and beds were very comfortable and we slept exceptionally well. Be aware it is COLD at night, don’t just bring layers, bring WARM layers (hat, gloves, layerable sweats/fleece). When we we’re cold the team brought us hot water bottles which was a total game changer and so nice of them. The food is incredible, I still don’t even understand how they make it with the resources they have on this trip.
I think it is also important to point out that TreXperience is an ethical company, which I would say is maybe even the number one reason to select them for your trip. They is a long-standing issue with companies exploiting the porters with poor pay and overwork, including forcing them to carry weights which are too heavy/safe which no doubt leads to injuries longterm. On your trip you will see that porters are the backbone of tourism on the Inca Trail, it would literally be impossible without them, and so finding a company which respects this is very important. TreXperience is very transparent with how they treat their porters, including citing their pay and how much they are allowed to carry, and on our trek all of the staff seemed genuinely happy to be with the group. Be sure to bring money for tips – when you see how hard everyone works you will definitely want to!
Final note: the weather is extremely unpredictable in the mountains – definitely bring a rain jacket +/- rain pants as well as light layers for layering during the day.
Overall 12/10 recommend doing your Inca Trail/Machu Picchu trek with TreXperience.
