I have hiked quit a lot, but this experience is different and unique with porters and chiefs services. I highly recommend it to anyone who don’t mind outdoor living… read more for a few days. More specifically, here are what I like and some thoughts
1. The porters are working very hard for very little, and they are very attentive, eager to please if we need anything. I would suggest to bring a lot more changes to tip them.
2. Our guides, Carlos and Joao are very personable and fun, knowable and experienced. I have enjoyed the interaction with them greatly. I wish I asked them a lot more questions, cultural and personal.
3. The chief ( Julio) and meals are excellent, I am amazed how did he manage to produce the meals with beautiful presentation under such primitive conditions? Again, the porters bring in everything include cooking stove, pots and pans, propane etc Tip is: be prepared to eat three square meal a day!:-)
1. Company could ask us to indicate the t-shirt size ahead of time online to make it easier for the guides.
2. I would like to stick to the same sleeping bag and pillow, so a system to put our name there would be helpful.
3. For travelers, I wish I read more about the history so I can learn even more from the trip.
It was a wonderful experience, the trail/place and the people have touched me deeply, and I’d do it again!
A great hiking experience. Stunning views and breathtaking peaks. The hike itself is fairly challenging but doable for most people, and the trail is dotted with fascinating Inca ruins to… read more wet your appetite before Macchu Pichu. The three-course meals and varied breakfasts served every day by the traveling chef were always well received. The porters heaved tents and sleeping bags ahead to prepare the campsite for us each day.
Our tour guides Edy and Juan were very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic and I really enjoyed their company throughout.
Overall a great experience. Just note that you will be sharing the trail with your group, other groups, and the 20+ porters for each group. it can feel a bit crowded at times.
Also, if you are from a country without a tipping culture – and especially if you’re on a tight budget – be aware that there is a strong expectation of significant tips at the end for the guides, chef and porters that accompany you along the way. They tell you it’s voluntary but it won’t feel that way.
The total experience was amazing. The people, the history, the culture. The work ethic of all involved. The knowledge and patience of the guides. It was a once a lifetime… read more experience. We were made to feel as family not customers.
We had an amazing trip, having both the amdes and then seeing Machu Picchu was mind blowing and a lifetime experience. The crew and the kitchen was perfect and super… read more friendly. Our guide Miguel was aswell very good, friendly and knew a lot about what we were having a look at. Specially showing us his house at a lunch or his neighbor señora carmen doing chicha, were very nice experiences.
Little minus, sometimes he tried to do it too well and it got stressfull (example: one morning we had a train to catch, first he made us run to the train station, then we needed to buy something to protect the sticks even though we rented them from trexperience and in the end we were waiting more then 10 minutes inside the train because we were too early). Also forcing us to fill out this recommendation at least 3 times made an unnecessary pressure.
Can’t recommend this company enough. Our guides, Robby and Sol, were very knowledgeable and taught us all so much about the Inca history and culture along our hike. The food… read more was above and beyond, and the porters are truly heroes. The crew brought us hot tea in the mornings and even had hot water outside our tents every morning to wash our faces. Such an unbelievable experience!
An unforgettable 4 days made even better with our great host Carlos Ccolcca who made the journey both fun and informative and the best chef we have seen in action… read more Julio Cesar and the amazing porter team we had. They encouraged us… read more along the way and kept a pace that wouldn’t overexert us. He knew all the cool spots to take breaks and he made sure we started early to beat the crowds. The cooks spoiled us with the most amazing food and the porters setup our tents so they’d be ready to slumber in once we got to our sites. I recommend this company to anyone wanting to go on their next Incan adventure!

Truly once in a lifetime and I don’t think any other company could have made this a better time.
Our hosts Vannia and Jonah were incredible. They both were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their work. The food was definitely the highlight of this tour. Exceeded all expectations. A truly fantastic experience. We could not have asked for a better guide in Adolfo. He is very knowledgeable about the trek, Machu Picchu, the vegetation, culture,… read more etc. Cenovio was our chef; He is very talented as well. Delicious and creative meals. The porters and horseman were also exceptional. Some of the hardest workers i’ve ever seen. Highly recommend this team.
I had a great time on the 2-day Inca trail with Pepe! He provided very thorough explanations all throughout the trek and answered my many questions. With his experience as… read more both a ranger at Machu Picchu and a tour guide, we got to hear some unique stories and information about the site. During the hike there were many stops to accommodate the speed of everyone in the group. The lunch with veg option was more than enough and really yummy. The train option was epic. I highly recommend it!
The whole experience from start to finish was really well organised and the group of 7 of us, plus our guide Edy, created a great bond.
The briefing on… read more the first night gave us all the info we needed and, as a solo female traveller, I was put at ease.
The team of chef, assistants, porters and horsemen looked after us so well! The food was insane! We never went hungry and actually I felt bad there was always food left over. And it wasn’t just good food for being out in the mountains, it was GOOD food for anywhere! I can’t believe what they were able to make, including full on cakes! And we got to experience a meal cooked in a traditional oven in the ground.
The hot springs were a delightful start to the trip, although they would have been welcome after the 3 days trekking too! :) And the breakfast served was incredible!
The hike was beautiful! We were never rushed. It was fine that there were faster and slower walkers. Our guide Edy always made sure everyone was OK.
The nights were cold in June, so pack a warm coat and make sure you have something warm to sleep in, although we were given a sleeping bag liner and hot water bottle, which was a wonderful and welcome touch.
Edy was so much fun to spend 4 days with, and he was not only friendly and caring, but super knowledgeable. You could tell he cared deeply about the local people and the mountains. He told us all about the local communities, as well as the mountains, the fauna and the culture.
Machu Picchu was the highlight! Again, Edy was great! He was an expert at storytelling and relaying the history of Machu Picchu. He gave us all the time we needed for photos and for storytelling, and he was excellent at taking the best photos in the best spots.
It was an amazing experience I wish cherish forever! And TreXperience, Edy, and the group made me feel very safe and welcome as a solo traveller. I would definitely recommend TreXperience and do tours with them again!
The scenery was amazing and the culture knowledge offered by Eddy our tour guide was excellent. He demonstrated a deep understanding of Incan and Quechua culture.

The trip was a truly an amazing experience. The scenery was simply stunning, it is a journey that makes the visit to Machu Picchu extra special. Herbeth was extremely knowledgeable, supporting and friendly, a great person and guide. And without Valentine and his excellent and plentiful food we definitely wouldn’t have made it!
Weather was excellent too but do bring warm clothes for June.
I would recommend this trip to anyone (who has good fitness) to complete this trek!
This trip was one of my best experiences. Spectacular sceneries and beautiful Inca sites on the way. Trexperience team was awesome. Our tour guid, Robinzon, was very knowledgeable about the… read more Inca’s history and the nature and gave us a lot of cool tips along the way. He had a really good sense of humor as well.
My friend and I have chronic knee pain so we walked slowly and were always behind the rest of the group. Robinzon was very patient, always walking behind us, assuring us to go with our own pace, always saying "step by step, go with your own pace and enjoy the hike!" :)
Our chef, Julio Cesar was amazing. I don’t even know how he could manage preparing and cooking 2-3 different types of food so quickly. Both the taste and the presentation of the meals were great.
Every step of the way was scheduled nicely and went on plan. I would highly recommend Trexperience.
My husband and I booked this tour for our honeymoon and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences of our lives.
Amazing views, amazing food,… read more amazing people!
You get to journey through some beautiful landscapes – originally walked by the Incas – and see environments including grassland, cloud forest and jungle.
The group size is perfect (around 14 people) so you have time to talk to and get to know everyone.
At night you camp in the beautiful mountains and you don’t even have to put up your tents – there’s a team of amazing porters who do it all for you and your camp is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Speaking of the amazing porters, this includes a number of talented cooks who prepare you breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a mix of both traditional Peruvian and European food and it is absolutely delicious! (My husband and I had been suffering from travellers’ tummy before the hike, but this food put us right.)
The chefs even prepared an amazing cake and marshmallow birthday surprise for one hiker in the group, and on the last night my wife and I were presented with not one, but TWO chocolate cakes to celebrate our honeymoon!! Amazing!!
What makes you feel even better is that Trexperience is an ethical company, which treats the friendly team of porters well, makes sure they are paid properly and doesn’t make them work ridiculous hours, ie four day treks back-to-back. There are some porters along the trail who look absolutely EXHAUSTED and it does feel uncomfortable. However, with Trexperience you can be confident that in this company they are treated well.
Each day begins with an early breakfast before you start your hike. Day one is pretty easy, while days two and three are more challenging – some steep up and down hills.
However, if you haven’t done a hike before please don’t worry, all you need is good stamina, a positive attitude, and the will to succeed!
You walk through some BREATHTAKING landscapes and are constantly surrounding by mountains which are beautiful come rain or shine.
There’s waterfalls, wild animals, gorgeous flowers, and historical sites along the way.
Another point; if you are struggling, you can take as much time as you want and one of the hike leaders will stay with you.
All this, and I haven’t even mentioned our super tour leaders or Machu Picchu!!!
We had two tour leaders for our trip who had bounds of energy, enthusiasm and humour.
Each day, to break up the walks, our guides Erisban and Manolo would stop us for a rest and tell us about traditional Incan beliefs and customs. It was really interesting and a great way to learn about history as Erisban and Manolo are descended from the Incas.
They are very passionate and you could tell that they loved introducing their culture to us.
They were great fun to be around, always laughing and joking with the group, while they could always put you at ease if you were worried.
Thank you Manolo and Erisban – you were super!
The fourth and final day is the the highly anticipated two hour walk and visit to Machu Picchu.
The team wakes up very early and embarks on a beautiful hike to ‘Sun Gate’ – the viewing point opposite Macchu Picchu.
Here you can celebrate the completion of your journey, take in the awe inspiring scenery and (of course!) take celebratory selfies.
A visit to the Incan super-town really is a once in a lifetime experience and leaves you in awe of what was achieved hundreds of years ago.
After your visit, you take a bus (hooray!) down from the mountains to enjoy some llama burgers (seriously!) and some shopping before taking the panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo. A beautiful way to end a superb trip.
In conclusion, this is a once in a lifetime trip that you simply must do if you are planning on visiting Machu Picchu – and there’s only one group to do it with: Trexperience!
Thank you guys for an amazing honeymoon and unforgettable memories x

Thanks to our guides… read more NILO and YONER I had the opportunity to better understand the Inka colture and to have a lot of fun! These 2 guys are incredible! As well as the chef’s team that provided us such great food, also the dishes for the vegetarian were incredible. I raccomando you

I suggest also to do the inka trail and not other trails because of alla the Inka elements and because once I get to machu pichu, I swear, it will taste different than just taking a bus or a train in one day!

Jorge was the head chef on my tour and he made us 5 star meals with limited resources in the middle of the Andes—it was a talent to behold. Demetrio and Julian were Jorge’s helpers and they were incredible. The entire team did everything with so much care and love and I’m grateful to have met them. The food/catering is absolutely delicious and it’s incredibly impressive what our team Amilca, Cecilio and Elmer put together on the side of a mountain. Thank you all!! The meals really were a highlight. The team look after the majority of your equipment – ours was quickly transported from campsite to campsite by the team of horses and our capable horseman, Wilbur.
Group sizes are kept small (smaller than many other operators) so we all got to hike at a pace we were happy with. Our group was 5pax and quickly became "familia" on the trip!
Lastly a special mention to our guide, Adolfo who was brilliant throughout. He kept motivation high and provided lots of information throughout, drawing on his 15 years of experience to teach us about the inca civilisation, as well as wildlife (flora & fauna) through the trek. Gracias Adolfo.
Despite having a cloudy day at Machu Picchu with poor visibility and no ‘vista’, we all reminisced on the panoramic train back towards Cusco that the journey with TreXperience really did outweigh the destination (Machu Picchu) for us. 100% recommend.

Special thanks for putting up with our endless questions (!) and making sure each of us in the group got what we wanted from the experience. And for the 4am daily coca tea !
Not an easy hike but achievable for various ages and fitness levels and worth ticking off the bucket list. I’d highly recommend Trexperience.

From the moment Jose picked us up at our hotel, we were treated with the best logistically organised and informative tour we could have hoped for. He also taught us how to take the BEST Iphone pics (as a value-add) and was more than happy to share story and a laugh.
What a delightful, stress-free tour. There is no way we would have been able to see what we did in the time with as little stress were it not for Jose and this tour. Well worth it and will be recommending to others.

Not only was Nilo an excellent guide, who was well versed in the knowledge surrounding the region and history, but he was also a great leader who would always go out of his way to make sure everyone was safe. He would stay with the last person in the group, making them not feel like a burden and helping with all of our needs along the trek. We were always met with great nutritious meals delivered by our chef Vacilio and sous chef Eusebio, which would enable us to travel great distances. Lastly, our personal belongings would always greet us at our campsites or before meals due to the extraordinary diligence of our horseman Frank. I had a wonderful time and cannot wait to go on more trekking experiences.

I was really thankful that he stopped… read more multiple times during our hike so I could take breaks and he made sure no one was left behind (we had a mix of faster hikers and slower hikers in our group). Charlie was also a really good photographer and will take many many beautiful pictures of you! Our trail tickets only let us into Machu Picchu once (no bathrooms inside Machu Picchu), however, my boyfriends stomach was not feeling well and we needed to use the restroom mid tour, Charlie was able to talk to the ticketing counter to get us an exception so we could re-enter Machu Picchu again. We absolutely loved the packed lunch on our hike, however we did not enjoy the dinner chosen by the tour company. The restaurant they chose was low quality with limited options. We ended up going to eat somewhere else after the group dinner was over.
The four day trek is a unique way to learn about and appreciate the local culture and nature. We had taken the train to Macchu Picchu a few years earlier… read more but the hiking trip really puts this unique wonder in perspective. Carlos and Joao were awesome guides; knowledgeable, experienced, patient. Given the restrictions by the ministry of culture— e.g. the locations of campsites and the facilities, the tour company has done an awesome job. The food by the chef Julio Cesar, was amazing: a high end introduction to the Peruvian cuisine. A team of porters had to transport everything on foot up to the three camp sites and cook the food on site. Everything was provided by the team- tours of Inca sites along the way and of course the tour of Machu Picchu at the end.
