Carlos was very funny with very good English and very knowledgeable about the Inca and Quechua people and their land. We had an amazing time
This tour will be the best thing you ever do!
4 days of beautiful scenery and amazing hosts. The tour guide Bernabe made the trip so special, was super friendly… read more and had lots of amazing information to share. We ate so well every day thanks to the chef Timo, some of the best food I’ve had in Peru and we even got a cake for our friends birthday!
Would highly recommend!
Our tour guide was José Calderon. We are very pleased about him. The trek was amazing. Spectacular views and by the end of a hard day the chefs prepared us… read more a delicious meal.
Absolutely the best experience of my life. Edy and Yoner and the whole TreXperience team were absolutely the best we could possibly imagine. We knew it would be an awesome… read more experience but they took it to the next level. Every possible thing was taken care of and made easier for the group. They whole group loved it! Beyond brilliant!
Wow! What an awesome experience! I had a blast! Stunning scenery, challenging yet rewarding hiking, sensational food and hospitality and experienced knowledgeable guides.
Our guide, Carlos the mountain lion… read more is very knowledgeable and experienced and helped get the most out of the trek.
The hospitality shown by the hard working porters and chefs, Rollando, Javier, Martine, Alex and the rest of the team was second to none.
To get the most out of this it helps to be in shape as TreXperience explains at the outset. A truly outstanding experience i have no hesitation recommending to others.
Great food, great people and the best organisation of all the trips we had in Peru! Definetely worth every Penny, I would do it again! :)
We hiked past beautiful… read more scenery and though it was also exhausting and cold (bring enough warm clothing), we loved it with all the great food and conversations. Our guide was great and so was the whole team (cooks and horsemen). We were woken up with hot coffee or tea, had two matresses and a hot waterbottle to keep warm during the nights.
I can’t tell any favourit part of the tour, cause it was all great :)
Thanks a lot to Trexperience!
This was an unforgettable experience start to finish. Our guides Robinson and Manollo together with the Pisac porters group took a great care of us and the whole organisation. The… read more guides were both native Andean and gave us authentic information about their culture and heritage which we really enjoyed. They not just explained by also often showed us live how they use different plants for water, food, medicine or building materials. Robinson made all the effort for us to really enjoy our vacation, especially being flexible with the schedule to allow us to see more of the amazing sites along the way. He even negotiated with a ranger in one of the Inka sites to allow us to stay longer and watch an amazing sunset. He came down with a stomach bug on a third day but despite that he kept going and we wouldn’t have even noticed it if he hadn’t missed the breakfast. Manollo especially impressed on us all of their Andean/Inka culture and religion that is still preserved to this day in his village; he made sure we were well entertained even through the difficult parts of the hike and even went so far to play the Andean flute for us on the final descent on the second day after two very big climbs. The echoes of his playing from the surrounding peaks created a magical atmosphere that is hard to describe. The chef and his assistants were the unexpected highlight of the trip. Throughout we ate amazing and authentic food on par with the best Peruvian restaurants and it came with the amazing food decorations to make the experience feast for eyes as well. Our porters did an amazing job as well. This was our first hike like this and we had no idea how much work porters put into it and how important it is. They carried so much more stuff than we expected and were running around the mountains to set up our lunch and night camps ahead of us to make sure they were ready whenever we arrived. They woke us up every morning with a hot coca tea and hot water of hot water to wash our faces and teeth and also welcomed us to night camps with hot water to wash and relax our feet after a long day of hiking. Most of the things they did for us we didn’t even knew we needed and in few cases we needed something they literally ran across the camp so that we don’t need to wait more than few seconds. It was an outstanding level of service, way above the level we’d expect coming from Europe. Overall it was a five star experience.
I did the two day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu excursion with Robinzon as our guide. I am 43 and in good shape (HIIT workouts 2-3 times per week… read more and typically a 5K run each week). The trail wasn’t too bad, although parts could be challenging. I completed the trip in tennis shoes.
Robinzon was AMAZING!! He went at our pace (my 67 yo mother was with us) and was very patient. He was also very knowledgeable about history, flora, and fauna. Robinzon made sure we knew what was going on for each part of our trip and that we were taken care of- even checking in on mom the day after our trip! He took great pictures of us to document our experience. I wouldn’t have wanted any other guide- Robinzon was great!!
We had an outstanding experience on the 5-day Lares to Short Inca trail with Juvenal as our guide, Lorenzo as our chef, Joao as assistant chef, and Toribio as our… read more porter. We were a small group (3) and the entire crew took incredible care of us to share the magical culture and scenery in the Sacred Valley. Please see the end of the review for a note on preparing for the altitude and general hike difficulty.
First and foremost, we thank our amazing guide, Juvenal, for bringing his in-depth knowledge for and love of the culture and people in the highlands of Lares. By communicating with local people (in Quechua), Juvenal was able to deliver an unparalleled experience of the incredible lifestyle, culture, and practices of the native people here. We were extremely moved and honored to share beautiful moments with the wonderful people of the highlands.
Juvenal also shared in-depth knowledge of the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations throughout the trek, and especially on the way to the stunningly beautiful and jaw-dropping ruins at Machu Picchu. The short Inca trail was an excellent way to reach Machu Picchu through the Sun gate (stunning view from here) in a single day’s hike.
We are so grateful for all of Juvenal’s knowledge and warm spirit. He makes a point to treat all people (not just us, but local people, the rest of the crew etc.) with kindness and respect. We couldn’t ask for a better guide for our experience. Thank you Juvenal!
Our head chef, Lorenzo, and his assistant Joao were absolutely incredible as well. Lorenzo blew our minds with how delicious (and even aesthetically pleasing) he could prepare meals while camping at 13,000 feet. My partner is vegetarian and he prepared an elaborate collection of nutritious and tailored meals for her along the way. He even prepared special meals when we both were struggling a bit with the altitude. Thank you Lorenzo and Joao!
Finally, our porter, Toribio, never ceased to impress with how quickly and safely he transported the our and the crew’s gear with his team of mules. It is astonishing how well he and his mules move through such a difficult landscape. Thank you Toribio!
We could never have anticipated how incredible and enriching this experience would be for all three of us. Not only did we see some the most incredible views of our lives, but we also learned and experienced an extremely rare and beautiful way of life that the native people of the highlands carry on. Their strength and kindness will stay with us for our entire lives.
A quick note on the demands of the trek itself. The three of us (ages 29-32, active and relatively experienced hikers) found the Lares portion very challenging due to it being at an altitude that none of us had hiked in before. We also made the mistake of not giving ourselves ample time to acclimate to the altitude in Cusco before starting the trek (and also tried to do it without altitude medication etc.). The coca tea/leaves helped to an extent but we absolutely recommend taking time (2-3 days) to acclimate in Cusco and taking altitude medication if you (like us) are not used to hiking at altitude. That way, nothing (besides the usual challenges of a difficult hike) gets in the way of your experience.
Even besides the altitude, this is a very challenging trek, so make sure you are comfortable with steep inclines/declines and heights in general before hiking the Andes. If you are up for the challenge, it is absolutely incredible!
Thank you Juvenal, Lorenzo, Joao, Toribio, and all of the beautiful people we met along the way for an unforgettable experience!!
The entire trip was amazing! Our guide Jose Calderon was a very caring and humorous person with ample experience in guiding tours like this. Jorge, Demetrio and Julian were so friendly and made the trip so much better. The only thing better than the huge amount of restaurant quality food was the incredible sites and views.
Everything was well thought of to the smallest details.
The guides were knowledgeable and from the local community of the Inca region.
I like that they have two… read more women guides to accommodate an all women group mentored by a very passionate charismatic male guide who empowered them to take the lead throughout the trail.
The porters were beyond helpful, they were pleasant and encouraging with their smiles and high spirit as they worked hard to set up the tents and attend to all our needs, a group of 9 women.
The food is another level of camp food. We were well fed. We wouldn’t have gotten that quality of food in a standard restaurant: from The variety to quantity of food and the presentation. I could go on and on. In short, you can’t go wrong with food with Chef Julius Cesar and her assistants. Every day and night was a different dish. We even asked for the recipe to attempt to make it at home.
I will miss everything about this experience. Thank you Jose, Rosa, and Lordes. Truly you made a beautiful experience unforgettable.

He loves the… read more Inca trail and it’s rich history more than everything. The exact type of guide you want to learn from and keep motivated throughout. The trail itself is amazing, the views and the Inca ruins along the way make seeing Machu Picchu that much more special and meaningful. The entire team goes absolutely above and beyond to make the experience great. The whole thing is so well run and organized, from getting camp set up and broken down each day to the fantastic food that is cooked. The porters were always clapping us into camp after a day of hiking after they had been then ones doing the actual hard work. Lastly the food, wow, amazing what kinda of things they can cook up there on tiny stoves. We had a wide variety of dishes with fish, beef, chicken along with traditional Peruvian dishes and they easily accommodated for those in the group that were vegan or vegetarian. Can’t recommend this company and tour enough!!!

I was moved to hear the stories of each member of staff and it was great to be introduced to them all on day 3 of the hike.
The only thing which i think could be improved is the clarity around how much to tip before attending – the recommended tip overall worked out around £150 per person which we hadn’t understood and therefore hadn’t brought with us beforehand, so we then went to a cash point. Of course its entirely discretionary whether and how much to tip, however more clarity before the trek would have been really appreciated so we didn’t turn up shortchanged.
The trek was so well-planned, detailed, and organized! The views speak for themselves, but TreXperience and our guide really thought of everything to make sure we enjoyed our hike. My wife and I did a private 4 day tour where we had a private guide, 5 porters and a cook. My wife was 6 months pregnant, but was able to hike the whole thing with no issue. It can be a bit challenging, but as long as you acclimate like 3-4 days before in Cusco or the sacred valley you will be fine.
We booked 4 months out and they maintained god communication. They were flexible on meeting up 2 days before the trip to give us the overview and the duffels we would pack. Of note you can put more weight in your duffles as the trip progresses, because as you eat food the overall load of the porters lightens.
The first day is easy. The staff pitches camp for you in full each day. And they set up a private dining tent. The second day is challenging since you do about ~4200 ft of elevation change. There are a lot of steep stone steps after you come down from dead woman’s pass. Poles help a lot, but your knees will be sore after. The third day is some good ascent, but not as bad as the day before, but be prepared for a long day with lots of steps down, it is insanely steep, the last day is easy and Machu Picchu is great.
Lunch in Agua Caliente is good, but you have to wait a few hours for the train, it only runs once in the afternoon. We got an hour massage to kill time and sally enjoyed it.
As a recommendation I would say the more time you have to acclimate the better, the altitude can take down strong men. Also read about the area in advance and learn about Inca history, it makes it much more enjoyable. Bring extra to tip the guides and staff. You will have an immense amount of respect for what they do by the end of trip.
You will not regret booking this hike.
Amazing trail with amazing views! Our private guide Jose Luis made those 2 days such a fun and great experience. The best guide we ever had!
