Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 1
Delivery service executive director
Highly recommend for backpackers and adventure seekers! Our guide Luis, was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to teach us about everything from foods, plants, peoples, rocks, etc etc.… read more He was super attentive to everyone and just over all good genuine guy. Our second guide, Melky, was so sweet and fun to talk to on the hikes! The chefs are incredible and we were always full with food and accommodated the specific dietary restrictions of some people in the group. We rented sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and hiking poles and tent were comfy! Loved waking up to hot tea every morning. Expect noise at night from animals, roosters and dogs are specifically loud. Literally a breathtaking experience with the physical demand of the hike and epic views. You wake up before sunrise and hike all day. Caution: Athleticism and fitness are essential to enjoying this hike. As an experienced backpacker, this is a difficult hike even with just a day pack. Expect steep ascents, switch backs into high altitude and slippery, loose rock, muddy descents into the jungle. Recommend hiking poles if you have knee problems. Trexperiece did a fantastic job, well organized, great value, and overall once in a lifetime experience!!!
I can’t recommend trek experience enough, but most of all our guides Juvenal and Oscar who looked after us incredibly on our Salkantay trek. Not only are they exceptional tour… read more guides, they made the trek so much more than the scenery (which is stunning). Providing knowledge of the area, history, wildlife, which made the whole experience so much more memorable and enriched. If we asked anything they would help at any time – if you’re flagging a bit they rally around you, you’re so well looked after at every point 24/7. The food was absolutely out of this world considering you’re on a mountain half the time. It genuinely felt like a big family. Juvenal was exceptional when we split groups, taking photos for us – helping with my bag, he genuinely wants you to have the best experience and it shows. If I come back to do the Inca trek I hope to have Oscar / Juvenal to guide us! Thank you so so much guys!
First of all, I’ll start with the good things and then, some that personally it needs to be improved.
POSITIVE: first of all, the company is avobe others just… read more for the simple fact that they pay fairly to people, don’t over exploit them like others do (for example Alpaca expedition, we’ve seen double the KG a porter should be carrying), they also have nice details like the train back to Cusco is 360 panoramic (not all companies do that, just a few).
When it comed to porters, they are great, fast and efficient hars workers that are 100% paying attention to you since day 1. Special mention to the cookers, they are like god master chefs who cook amazing things in the middle of nowhere, most of the food was even better than the restaurants, incredible, geniuses.
Finally, thank you for the guides to take care of us and lead us all the way to Machupicchu, especial mention to @Juvenal, an amazing guide who’s organization was perfectly executed since the breefing day 0. He knows a lot about psychology of groups and how to handle them in tough situations, prepare them psychology for what’s to come and manage sudden events like that could affect or even end someone’s treck. We were amaze also by his knowledge of the culture and the trecking history. I’ve done lots of trecks like this around the world and I could say he’s one of the best, if not tge best guide ever had. Wish him the best in the future. I would repeat any future experience with him without doubt.
NEGATIVE: they promise premium customer service, and during the treck, we sort of had it, they claim to be avobe other companies when it comes to paychecks and caring people, and they are, but they also claim to be resourceful if any things turns wrong before the treck and to adapt an itinerary to you… and that, they didn’t deliver. Altitude sicknes hit me pretty hard first week in Peru and for one week we were asking yo have a plan B and gives us a final plan and pricing in case we had to cancel, they never did, and it was pretty chaotic, as the breefing sesion with our main guide Robinson. On that they didn’t deliver and I hope in the future they improve on that area, it was pretty disappointing to see they claim yo differentiate from the competence on that, to adjust and be more "personal" and flexibile in case something happens before the trip but unfortunately they didn’t.
THIS IS A DIRECT COMPLAIN TO THE COMPANY AND NOT THE AMAZING TEAM THEY HIRE TO EXECUTE THE TRECK. SO THE EXPERIENCE YOU’LL GET DURING AND FROM THE TEAM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS NEGATIVE PART FROM THE COMPANY.
I will still give them the 5 star hoping they improve that in the future!
Wow wow wow !
What an experience. We had a fantastic time on the salkantay trek , not to be underestimated there is a lot of climbing but all… read more worth it !
Our guide Walter was absolutely amazing, well informed , funny and really looked after us the whole way. He took his time to explain the itinerary and always made sure the group was ok and everyone was happy, even on the tough climbs with some altitude sickness we never felt rushed.
The food was fantastic , way more than our expectation. Our chef Amilcar was a genius to create what he did in the mountains , we even had a cake on the last day! All food was fresh and delicious. Also kudos to our horsemen who were up at the crack of dawn to bring us cocoa tea and transport all our bags.
If you’re in any doubt do not hesitate , the trek is almost better than maccu picchu itself . Beautiful views , an abundance of wildlife and the odd scary bus journey to top it off!
Thanks once again to Walter and the team , an experience I will never forget!
After getting altitude sickness in Cusco I was unsure if I was going to be able to hike, Edgar made everyone feel at home and was so friendly. You can… read more tell he loves showing people Machu Picchu and insists on taking in the moment and the beauty while telling us about the place and the culture with love and pride. I’m so glad I did the hike. Even when we struggled a bit he was kind and encouraging. I’ve never experienced altitude sickness before and Edgar helped me feel at least and looked after. I really enjoyed his knowledge and history of the area and the people and I felt lucky as we walked around seeing people reading from textbooks and talking at people; Edgar is a human encyclopedia and again he took the time to make sure to encourage us to take in the moment and that meant a lot. With the hike you could get distracted and forget this is a once in a lifetime event that you’re lucky enough to see and for me it really helped ground me and remember to take it all in. If you’re lucky enough to hike with Edgar you will know what I’m talking about.
Our experience was amazing! Our guides, JJ (Juan Jose) & Judy, were experienced and knowledgeable and kept us well informed the entire trip. The food was absolutely delicious and… read more so impressive, we ate like Kings every meal. A huge thank you to our porters for carrying everything and having everything set up flawlessly upon our arrival to camp each night. With so many dynamics with a group hike our guides did an excellent job of handling many tough situations (altitude sickness, slower trekkers, etc) and ensured that everybody arrived safely to camp each night. Thank you for making this experience the best!
The views were immaculate as was the food! Rob and Sol were the best guides ever really funny and knowledgeable about the history of the place.
Favorite part? Everything. I wouldn’t change a single thing about this trip. Charlie, Sarita, and our chef, sous chef, and porters were just such an attentive and caring team. And… read more this is in addition to being on an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. And did I mention the food? Holy smokes! Better than any food I had in Lima or Cusco (or in most places, really). I could not recommend this trip more—start to finish (even with some pretty intense, high altitude hiking) WORTH EVERY PENNY.
From the moment we met Robbie the night before the trek, he explained it very thoroughly and made us feel at ease that he is going to be our guide.… read more Robbie took great care of us during the trek, made sure we stay hydrated and breaks as needed. He was very informative with all the Inca sites along the way to Machu Picchu. We def learned about the history of Peru. The porters were amazing. Every meal we had were delicious, I am still thinking the soup we had every night! Each morning we were awaken with hot coca tea and hot water to wash up. At each stop site for lunch and dinner we were given fresh water and soap to wash our hands. Every moment with TreXperience were very thoughtful! To top it off, our guide Robbie made us hot espresso when we arrive to the highest peak of the trek! It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! You definitely won’t regret if you choose TreX
Our tour guide was José Calderon. We are very pleased about him. The trek was amazing. Spectacular views and by the end of a hard day the chefs prepared us… read more a delicious meal.
This was the highlight of our time in Cusco. Vicente was incredible, knowledgeable, friendly, and took a genuine interest in us. Highly recommend him for all tours.
Absolutely worth it. Pepe and Rosita were the best tour guides I’ve ever had, and the group of 11 people was really great. It was 4 couples (8 people) and… read more 3 single people, and everyone got along great. The food was outstanding and you could tell Pepe and Rosita had done this trail a million times – we’d ask questions about where the restrooms, food or merchants might be, and they knew the trail like the back of their hand.
The campsites were nice, and the porters were extremely efficient and professional – hot water to wash in the morning, coca tea to wake up, they made tea when we got some pisco to sip on in the meal tent. Really great service all around.
Just can’t say strongly enough how much I enjoyed the trek – thank you so much again Pepe and Rosa for an unforgettable couple of days!
Me and my girlfriend did the 4 day Salkantay trek with Manolo as our guide. We were very lucky with being the only ones in the group and had excellent… read more weather the whole way. The scenery and campsites for all 4 days was exceptional. Manolo shared great stories from Inca culture and from his own life as a native peruvian. For every meal we ate like royalty and one of us being vegetarian was no issue thanks to the great chef Rolando and his assistant Rosalio. The height of the trek gave me altitude sickness on day 1, but this was easily managed with help from Manolo and a positive attitude. All in all this is an adventure we will not forget. I highly recommend using trexperience for this trek and especially Manolo and his team.
The care Efrain gave was great, he watched out for us, made sure we were all safe, comfortable, etc. He also taught us so much rich history. Amazing views,… read more great energy.
The trip was amazing! Day two was hard to be prepared for a tough hike at high elevation. The views and scenery were amazing the whole way.
Willian… read more was a great guide. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Julio Cesar was an amazing chef. Cooking all kinds of great restraunt quality food at the camp. The porters took care of everything. From rolling up and packing the sleeping bags/tents to giving us fresh juice and clean water at the stops.
All and all I can’t say enough good things about the team and the experience! Just be ready for some early mornings and camping quality sleep.
We really enjoyed the Lares trek. The route en views were amazing. The staff did everything in there power to make the experience as great as possible. The food was… read more amazing (and a lot!!!).
Our tour guide Carlos was really friendly, and knew a lot about the country and culture. He made the experience unforgettable.
Would definitly recommend, also if you would like to avoid very touristic places
Great landscapes, great guides, lot of knowledge and history. This is an must have in any Peru trip.
Had an amazing time on the Inca trail! Our tour guides Felix and Maribel went above and beyond. Felix was a fountain of knowledge and had answers to every question,… read more but beyond that was fun and friendly and was always ready with a joke and a smile. Maribel was so lovely and caring and full of positive reinforcement. The food was amazing with the staff preparing special dishes for Mother’s Day and a honeymoon – thank you to Julio Cesar! All in all a great trip :)
Did a tour with Pepe, rositas, sinchimacha, group of porters from lares. It was absolutely fantastic. Would not do this trek with any other group anymore! They were fantastic!
Incredible experience. Every aspect of the trip was of the highest quality. The food was amazing, the accommodation was comfortable, the porters were hugely helpful and the tour guides Charly… read more and Sara were fountains of knowledge. I would highly recommend Trexperience for anyone looking to do the Inca Trail over 4 days.
Great Experience and Great Tour with Augustin. I did two tours with Augustin – afternoon and morning. Each experience was different and worth doing. I was picked up from the… read more hotel, and guided to the bus station. This was fast and efficient. Once we reached Machu Picchu Augustine showed me the best spots to avoid the crowds. Augustin is very knowledgeable, he knows a lot about the place, history, customs and he chooses the best spots. He is also a wonderful photographer. I was very lucky to have Augustin with me. if you go to Machu Picchu , private guided tour is the best thing to do. I saw some people choosing wrong routes (they are different for the am and pm tour). You need to know where to go, where to take the best pictures but also understand the history and heritage. Augustin made my day and I fully recommend this trip to everbody. Thank you!
This tour was absolutely fantastic. It was a stress free and relaxing way to see Machu Picchu. The tour guide José was really great and informative. Highly recommend!
Had the best experience with TreXperience with Robbie and the rest of the crew. Pros: delicious warm filling meals and snacks for the trek, professional team who made sure we… read more were taken care of and put safety first, and most importantly we all made it!! Amazing views with an even more amazing team to lead us there!
This was one of the best trips of my life! Stunning scenery, challenging hikes and we were so well looked after. Edy was one of the best tour guides ever,… read more so kind and patient and made us feel completely comfortable and at home. Our porters were amazing carrying everything we needed and cooking great food every day even with sweet touches like being woken up with coca tea each morning or bowls of warm water outside our tent morning and evening. Sara was a wonderful tour guide as well- so funny and kind and very knowledgable. We had an amazing time- 10/10 would recommend!
Had such a great experience on the 2 day, 1 night trek with Filio. It was so rewarding getting to Machu Picchu at the end of the first day, then… read more having so much time the next day to explore. Filio was an amazing guide- so patient and positive, and passionate about the history, nature, and Quechua terms he taught us along the way. Our group was relatively small which made the experience that much better! Every part of the trip from start to finish was perfectly timed out and organized it was so nice to not have to plan anything. Trexperience was so easy to work with I would do it again next time a longer trek!
I booked classic Inca Trail 4 days with TreXperience on June 22, 2022 to June 25, 2022. My group had 5 people(1 couple from Denmark, 1 couple from London and… read more myself from Canada).
Our tour guide is Luis Jose Flores. We could call him Pepe but we called him MASTER after 2 days. He’s very calm, patience, funny, honest and has so much knowledge about Inca history and he loves and passionate about his country. He showed us how to pray to Pachamama with coca leaves. We all love it. He’s very well organized and timing our schedule very well making sure we have the best time. He’s even brought us the train station at the end of the trip and tell us where to wait for the train to go back to Cusco. We had so much great memory with him.
Our chefs Raymundo is an amazing chef. Menu change everyday from breakfast to lunch and dinner. We all love teatime everyday before dinner with freshly made popcorn right beside us. All the meals he made were so fresh and delicious. We all love his caramelized banana flambé with Pisco.
Porters we had 11 porters for 5 people. They work so hard. They carried our personal belongings, foods, tents, stove..every time we arrived to campsite they applauses us and bring us warm water to clean our face, hands to our tents. Warm Coca tea every morning to our tents and again warm water with their smile. They treated us like KINGS and QUEENS. Once we wanted to try to carry their backpack to see how heavy they’re carrying to climb up and down to mountains. We appreciate a lot for what they’re doing to give us the most comfortable possible.
TreXperience is very well organized for prepare our pick up dropping off on time and very friendly driver. Thank you for this great experience. I appreciate very much for the whole team made my vacation so memorable .
Had a great trip with my friends to hike up to macchu Picchu where we had a great organized team including our tour guides Edy and Rosalinda, our cook Walter… read more made amazing food, and our porter de pisac and his team were amazing with carrying all our items/equipment with great speed. Definitely recommend if you are looking to go to macchu picchu!
Russel and Rosa gave us an amazing tour with lots of information on the history of inca sites and information along the trail. We visited many picturesque places and managed… read more to be the first group to Macchu Picchu helping avoid major crowds. Julio Cesar was our chef who cooked many delicious and filling meals and catered to dietary requirements.
Had an amazing 4day Salkantay Trek with Trexperience. Next to the obvious pretty environment and sightings the organisation was phenonmenal. Guide William showed us al the wonders and history of… read more the region, and Oscar + crew prepared the best – restaurant worthy – food from the campsites. Every detail was taken care of, from great equipment to warm water bottles for the cold nights.
The whole Trexexperience was amazing. From hiking to camping overnight with this group, this was the only way to do it. Our guide, Miguel, was fantastic. He was… read more fun, interesting, helpful, and went over the top to make the trip the best. The porters had everything set up for us before we needed it, including all of our overnight camping gear. Our chef, Celso, was also amazing. The food was just delicious, and, as a surprise, he baked me a birthday cake! It was the best and only was too do Machu Picchu.
We recently took part in the Salkantay Trek and loved every minute. Our guide Manolo was a constant source of positive energy from dawn til dusk (or after dusk)! He… read more told us stories of the Incas, of the stars and of the different Quechua communities and kept us entertained when the going (altitude) got tough. Melchor served up excellent food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and somehow managed to bake a pie and a cake after a long day of trekking. Pedro and Juan were excellent su chefs and porters, waking us up with hot coca tea in the mornings and ensuring we had warm water to wash our hands and faces with after a long day of hiking, and even bringing us hot water bottles to keep us warm on the first and second night.
Communication from Trexperience in the run up to the trek was fantastic. The whole trek was organised really well, from collection from our hostel on the first day to drop off on the last day (including collecting our luggage from the office and then the onward travel from the office back to our hostel). Everything ran smoothly without the slightest glitch. Would highly recommend!
The guide knew a lot about the history and the traditions of the quecha people. And shared a lot of information.
He was also looking after everyone during the… read more hike and taking care if us. Nothing to approve.
Hotel was clean but we missed two towels and the tv was not working. Nice big bed but small room without storage possibilties.
I would highly recommend TreXperience for anyone that wanted to see the Inca trail. It was luxury without the price tag. The service from the porters, the care and knowledge… read more from the guide and the thoughtfulness of the company was evident at every turn. Juan Jose, Julian Cesar, and countless others on the trek went above and beyond for whatever we needed and/or desired. If you are considering the hiking the Inca trial- you need to do it with this company!
For the details:
Packing: They send multiple emails prior to departure with a mix of packing lists and recommendations. From these we carried exactly what we needed without really any extra. Honestly the only extra stuff we packed and didn’t use was extra protein bars. In normal grueling prolonged hiking it’s normal to lose weight- but with this tour you will end up gaining a few pounds because the amazing meals and plentiful snacks and tea times made it impossible to ever go hungry. Even the picky eaters in the group were satisfied.
Camping- the tents were spacious for 2 people and in good condition. They provide a small pillow and sleeping pads for everyone included- and then everyone in the group brought their own hiking air mats and sleeping bags. (Only one person in the group rented a sleeping bag and it was warm and in very good condition). The process of getting the overnight duffles to the porters was easy and while you had to be conscious about the 7 kg weight limit it’s not hard to meet. The wake-ups were gentle with the porters brining hot coca tea to the tents in the morning which was wonderful to wake up to.
Hygiene/Bathrooms- it is a 4 day hiking trip. So expecting squatty potties and lack of showers should be expected. What was unexpected and above and beyond was the warm water provided every night and every morning for you to wash your hands/make pit baths in your tent with. We had no issue feeling relatively fresh in a multiple day hike setting. The guides are ever aware of the toilets available and the conditions of them. When the toilets were a hike from the camp or in not good conditions they would set up a little portable tent toilet all for convenience. There are cold showers available at pretty much all the camp sites if you can brave them. Make sure to have coins available to use for some of the toilets.
Hiking- As the actual meat of the experience the guide really worked hard to make sure that every level of hiker was able to achieve their goals and maximize the experience. Hiking poles are a must! Being physically fit is also important because it is a very challenging hike even for regular hikers. It’s always a challenge when you bring a group of random people together to accomplish such a physical task but Juan Jose did it with ease. He is also certified in wilderness medicine annually in the USA going beyond the standard. In addition to the stand annual Peru guide testing he also studies regularly so that he can continue to learn the most about his country and the Inca trail. He is a fountain of knowledge in both Spanish and English!
Food- honestly it’s covered throughly in the other reviews. But it truly is amazing!
Tips- While a lot of other reviewers were harsh on this topic, I think it all went well overall. The pre trip email laid out recommendations and it was reviewed the night prior to departure to hit up the Cusco ATM. The staff works really hard and it’s evident that the company cares for the porters and wants to make sure the Inca trail staff are treated well for their insane physical burdens.
The guides Robinson and Sol were very caring and looked after us very well. They explained a lot and also told us fun stories in the evening.
This was one of the most amazing excursions of my life! I’m a pretty experienced traveler and been on many tours, and this was something else. It was extremely well… read more organized, the porters were super heroes, and our chef Julio Cesar was a master in the kitchen! Our meals were so thoughtful and delicious. It’s amazing what he can put together in the middle of nowhere with such an amazing staff to help him. Everyone with the company was very thoughtful and helpful with anything we needed.
Our guide, Carlos Ccolcca, was the absolute best! He was so knowledgeable and personable. He really took care of us during the entire trip.
What wasn’t expected was that in our group of 7, which would be a great for intimacy and bonding, there would be a couple from the Netherlands who were VERY sick and demanded much of our guide’s time. They were unbelievably rude and selfish as to their needs when they should have ultimately decided NOT to take part in a physically demanding multiple day hike. We also had three teenagers who were not accompanied by their parent. The kids also hiked as fast as possible from point A to point B, leaving the rest of the group behind. Our guide had to stay behind with the sick people for safety reasons. The parent of said teenagers apparently decided that our guide was supposed to be their babysitter, and made it known that she felt her children should have been watched over 24-7, which in this situation with the Dutch couple, was not possible. Carlos did the absolute best he could in the situation and to make our time memorable.
Anyone who takes part in a tour knows how important the synchronicity of a group is to the overall experience, and unfortunately selfish sick people and unaccompanied children aren’t a great contribution to that. Tour gets 5 stars, but our group gets 2 stars!
The trekking with our guide William was amazing. The route true the andes and the amazon was nothing like i’ve ever seen and the campsites were one of the most… read more beautiful i’ve ever experienced. Also the food prepared by chef Lorenzo was beyond great.
Our tour guide, Juvenal was incredibly passionate, knowledgeable, and attentive, and made our experience hiking Machu Picchu one to remember! His joy and love for Peruvian history and culture… read more was contagious, and it was evident that Juvenal, along with the rest of Trexexperience was committed to providing the best possible experience. Highly recommend! Had an absolute blast!
Incredible experience, Miguel and the team (Senobio, Julio, Cecilio and Ilario) were fantastic, waking us up with coca tea and producing the most amazing banquets 3 times a day. You’ll… read more likely put on weight despite walking 70k+
Miguel our guide was very knowledgeable on the local area and wildlife and was a pleasure to talk to during the long days hiking. The scenery was stunning and the route both challenging but rewarding.
Trexperience exclusively uses local guides and porters so if you’re looking to visit Machu Picchu via the Salkantay trek I would 100% recommend.
This Salkantay Trek was absolutely amazing!! Our Guide Carlos Colca was the best guide I have ever had!! He taught us all about the Inca history and interesting facts on… read more each day of every hike. Most importantly he always made sure we were all comfortable, happy, and provided an experience better than I could have imagined. Thank you Carlos for some of the best 5 days of my life!
Seriously this trek was challenging, but Trexperience had everything planned out perfect. Even down to the little details such as luggage storage or pick up, they have everything organized so you can have 5 days of no prob-llama’s.
Our chefs and porters worked so hard and made the trek so much easier for us. Thank you to our chefs Celso and Abel for the incredible food each and everyday! Every meal was fantastic!! It’s amazing what they can cook in the mountains.
I signed up for this trek with my girlfriend and there were and we started with four other strangers. Carlos turned us into family and I hope to stay connected with these new friends in the future.
Book the trek already, you won’t regret it.
