What an amazing adventure! Our guides, Robinson and Soledad, were wonderful, fun, and informative. The whole trip was magical, spanning the moss-covered cloud forest to the unforgettable Inca ruins! Truly one of the most incredible experiences of my life! My husband and I booked the private 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu through Trexperience because of the great reviews,… read more and they exceeded every expectation. We were lucky enough to have Vincent as our guide – he was the best! He was a wonderful storyteller, a patient and encouraging guide, and very flexible with personalizing the experience for us. He had an answer for every question we had, and would occasionally ask us questions that we wouldn’t know the answer to – resulting in some of the most ridiculous jokes I’ve ever heard. Vincent also had a true respect and reverence for his history and traditional Inca customs, it was a beautiful experience to learn from him. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide to lead us to Machu Picchu!
Before starting the trail, we decided to stay overnight in Ollantaytambo to have a later wake up time (7AM pickup instead of 4AM, highly recommend). We decided to go with the private tour instead of a group because we wanted to go at our own pace, and honestly it wasn’t that much more expensive than the group tour – especially worth it when we considered the level of effort to get out there in the first place. We started the day on the Panoramic train to KM 104. Try to get seats on the side by the river. It’s beautiful from every angle, but that was definitely the place to get the best views. After getting off the train, we crossed the bridge and were greeted by an Andean Motmot! Such a lucky bird sighting! We were also fortunate to do the hike at the end of April, there were thousands of different orchids blooming on the trail.
Right away, you encounter the Inca Site of Chachabamba, directly across the river. It’s a great start to the trail before the ascent. The first half of the hike up to Wiñay Wayna was entirely uphill, it’s challenging but definitely doable. For reference, my husband and I are in our early-30s and moderately fit – we exercise regularly, but nothing can really prepare you for the altitude. Definitely stay in Cusco a couple days, drink lots of coca tea, and do what you need to do to adjust. After about 2.5 hours, we entered into a shaded area with a beautiful waterfall that we took a nice rest at. About 20 minutes from there, we reached Wiñay Wayna! This site alone is seriously worth the effort, it’s unbelievable from every direction. From there, the trail becomes a lot easier. Not as much continuous incline, Vincent referred to this part as "Inca flat" (basically quick ups and downs for the remainder of the hike). After one last push up a couple of daunting staircases, we reached the Sun Gate! It’s a surreal and spiritual experience, I can’t really put into words how special it was to see Machu Picchu in the distance. A little bit more walking from Intipunku, and we arrived at the bus station to be transported to Aguas Claientes.
The next morning, we woke up early and hopped on the same bus to be taken back to Machu Picchu. We had reserved tickets to climb Huayna Picchu, which we were feeling a bit nervous about, but I am so glad we did it. Honestly, the view at the top was worth every single stair to get up there. There were so many beautiful orchids, butterflies, and birds that provided great incentive (an excuse) to take rests on the way up. A true highlight of the experience! We still had plenty of time in Machu Picchu itself to see all of the temples and walk through the ruins. When our time was up, we said goodbye and hopped on the panoramic train in Aguas Calientes to return to Cusco in time for dinner and an early night of sleep.
This experience provided me with two of the best days of my life, and I could not recommend it more highly. A huge part of our experience was sharing it with Vincent, and I would absolutely recommend traveling with him if you can. We’re already planning on coming back to do the 4-day trail with him in the future! Until then, my husband and I will cherish the memories made on this unforgettable trip.
Can’t recommend this company enough. Our guides, Robby and Sol, were very knowledgeable and taught us all so much about the Inca history and culture along our hike. The food… read more was above and beyond, and the porters are truly heroes. The crew brought us hot tea in the mornings and even had hot water outside our tents every morning to wash our faces. Such an unbelievable experience!
We had an excellent experience with trexperience on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. We had Charlie and Sara as guides and they were amazing. Charlie has an incredible knowledge… read more of both history and the nature, which he shared with the whole group on the way. Furthermore we had amazing food along the way! We even got three courses at every meal. All in all an amazing experience!

We had a very positive experience with TreXperience. The company did an excellent job at keeping us well-informed about what to bring and expect for the trip as well as… read more updating us with changes to the region’s rules and regulations in light of COVID (mask requirements, COVID testing/vaccination protocol). There was a mandatory briefing the night before the trip to allow us to meet our tour guide, review the itinerary and give us an opportunity to ask any questions which I thought was very helpful.
The TreXperience team for my group consisted of tour guide Nilo Uscamayta, chef Celso, sous-chef Juan, and horseman Victor. I highly recommend this team – every single member worked so hard at making us feel welcome and as comfortable as possible on this journey. Nilo was very patient, empathetic and knowledgeable – some of us struggled during parts of the trek with injury or illness, and Nilo was very patient even though we moved slowly. He always encouraged us to move at a comfortable pace. He always asked how we were feeling and if there’s anything he could do to help. Nilo was very knowledgeable and was consistently giving us interesting information on the landscape, culture and history of the region. He also knew the best spots in Machu Picchu to capture beautiful photos and was always enthusiastic to take photos for us.
Every meal prepared by chef Celso and sous-chef Juan was impressive. They are truly talented to be able to prepare delicious meals with just a few tools and without a working kitchen. They even found out that it was my friend’s birthday and whipped up a personalized cake for her! The Pachamanca meal was very interesting and really demonstrated the passion that the chef and sous-chef have for cooking. Our horseman, Victor, was very attentive and always made sure that our belongings were readily available and that the campsite was setup before we arrived.
If you are considering doing a guided trek to Machu Picchu, I highly recommend this tour with TreXperience. Some parts of the trek may be difficult, but it is manageable and very scenic. You will have a very memorable time, especially if you are lucky enough to have the team that we had. Don’t think about it anymore and just book it :) !

All in all a great trip :)
We took the luxury inca trail trek with Trexperience mid April 2022. We always try to search for a local operator based on fellow travellers reviews. It was rather easy… read more in the case of Trexperience as they seem to benefit from numerous positive reviews on the web and they were one of the few companies able also to offer a more pampering version of the treck with better food, tents, beds, shower/wc.
The owner Carlos was responsive, informative, reliable and professional from start to finish and the team that helped us through the trek was great. I especially wish to mention Miguel, the guide, who was knolwgeable, helpful, supportive, responsible and more than anything, a great guy to have next to you on such a jurney.

Aside from the sickness, she was super knowledgeable and fun along our journey. She absolutely went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable! Thank you!!

Salkantay trek by TreXpirience is so well planned and thought out. The Pacha Manga which is a traditional earth roast of vegetables and meats was one of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever had, and I’m from NYC and live in Mexico so I’m picky about my cuisine. Jorge was the head chef on my tour and he made us 5 star meals with limited resources in the middle of the Andes—it was a talent to behold. Demetrio and Julian were Jorge’s helpers and they were incredible. The entire team did everything with so much care and love and I’m grateful to have met them. Vicente my tour guide will forever be a brother, he was kind and knowledgeable and really showed us the time of our lives. I feel lucky to have crossed paths with him. If you can help it please ask for Vicente as a tour guide along with Jorge, Demetrio, y Julian. From the moment we met Robbie the night before the trek, he explained it very thoroughly and made us feel at ease that he is going to be our guide.… read more Robbie took great care of us during the trek, made sure we stay hydrated and breaks as needed. He was very informative with all the Inca sites along the way to Machu Picchu. We def learned about the history of Peru. The porters were amazing. Every meal we had were delicious, I am still thinking the soup we had every night! Each morning we were awaken with hot coca tea and hot water to wash up. At each stop site for lunch and dinner we were given fresh water and soap to wash our hands. Every moment with TreXperience were very thoughtful! To top it off, our guide Robbie made us hot espresso when we arrive to the highest peak of the trek! It was definitely one of the highlights of the trip! You definitely won’t regret if you choose TreX

For anyone who is looking for another option than the Inca Trail, this is a great scenic option! From time of booking through Tour Radar, TreXperience had impeccable communication and… read more provided helpful information. We met our tour guide, Filio, in Cusco the night before and honestly we had the best time with him over the 4 days. He was great, funny and knowledgeable about all things Inca. He even taught us some Quechan. We were very lucky as there was only my husband and I so it became a private tour (great price!) and Filio was very patient with our pace. He was also a great photographer. Pedro was also an amazing cook and we could not fault any of the dishes. Was delicious so definitely consider booking via TreXperience as they are also a local company at a very good price compared to other Australian companies we were looking at!
Exceeding expectations all around. As a solo traveller I always felt welcome and well taken care of. The meals were both varied, typical and tasty. Our guides, Charlie and Sara,… read more were very nice and professional. Never once felt lost or left behind. Our group was young and could hold their own in hiking and joking around.
This company "suggests" that everyone should tip 80-100 sols to each porters and 10-15% of the tour fee to guide as a tip after booking. it’s not right to… read more inform that after booking. Even though each tour company said that tips are not included. but I have asked people who booked other travel agencies and there is no "suggestion" on how much to tip.
The tour fee is 700 US dollars per person. Even if each person gives minimum 10% as the tips(70USD), our group was 16 people, then that is 1,120 US dollars for the tour guides for 4 days working. I think that’s too much. I’m totally fine with the tips for porters, because they really did hard work. but giving 70 USD for our tour guides? Nope
We had awesome time with great food from Rolando and very knowledgeable guides Soledad and Robinson and very hard working porters lead by Toribio.

We can only recommend it to anyone thinking of taking on the challenge (it… read more wasn’t actually as hard as we thought it would be but we are quite a fit group!). Our guide Adolfo had lots of great history and stories to tell, which were usually accompanied by ridiculously good food cooked by Amilcar and his team. Seriously, we ate better than we did in Cusco most nights!
The camping equipment was all of a very good standard, and the added touch of a hot water bottle on night one which was the coldest (-5C degrees) was hugely appreciated by all. In addition, the logistics of our trip w ere incredibly well organised thanks to Amilcar, Elmer, Wilburgh and Cecilio, meaning that nothing was amiss and we did everything in good time.
We were very unlucky with our weather on Day 5, and unfortunately the clouds never parted for us to get a full view of Machu Picchu, which Adolfo told us had never happened in his 15 years of experience (cries inside). Nonetheless, he was very cheerful and told us all the history very enthusiastically to still make it a memorable experience.
If we trek in Cusco again, I think Trexperience would certainly be our choice and our group would all highly recommend to others.
Thanks Adolfo and team!
Eddie and Soldad was incredible. Super good food. Reccomend to everybody. Very coltural as well. Kind people!
